The Night

وَٱلَّيۡلِ إِذَا يَغۡشَىٰ1

Ayah 1

Translation of the meaningBy the night when it covers

وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا تَجَلَّىٰ2

Ayah 2

Translation of the meaningand the day when it shines

وَمَا خَلَقَ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلۡأُنثَىٰٓ3

Ayah 3

Translation of the meaningAnd by ˹the One˺ Who created male and female

إِنَّ سَعۡيَكُمۡ لَشَتَّىٰ4

Ayah 4

Translation of the meaningSurely the ends you strive for are diverse

فَأَمَّا مَنۡ أَعۡطَىٰ وَٱتَّقَىٰ5

Ayah 5

Translation of the meaningAs for the one who is charitable, mindful ˹of Allah˺

وَصَدَّقَ بِٱلۡحُسۡنَىٰ6

Ayah 6

Translation of the meaningand ˹firmly˺ believes in the finest reward

فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُۥ لِلۡيُسۡرَىٰ7

Ayah 7

Translation of the meaningWe will facilitate for them the Way of Ease

وَأَمَّا مَنۢ بَخِلَ وَٱسۡتَغۡنَىٰ8

Ayah 8

Translation of the meaningAnd as for the one who is stingy, indifferent ˹to Allah˺

وَكَذَّبَ بِٱلۡحُسۡنَىٰ9

Ayah 9

Translation of the meaningand ˹staunchly˺ denies the finest reward

فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُۥ لِلۡعُسۡرَىٰ10

Ayah 10

Translation of the meaningWe will facilitate for them the path of hardship

وَمَا يُغۡنِي عَنۡهُ مَالُهُۥٓ إِذَا تَرَدَّىٰٓ11

Ayah 11

Translation of the meaningAnd their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they tumble ˹into Hell˺

إِنَّ عَلَيۡنَا لَلۡهُدَىٰ12

Ayah 12

Translation of the meaningIt is certainly upon Us ˹alone˺ to show ˹the way to˺ guidance

وَإِنَّ لَنَا لَلۡأٓخِرَةَ وَٱلۡأُولَىٰ13

Ayah 13

Translation of the meaningAnd surely to Us ˹alone˺ belong this life and the next

فَأَنذَرۡتُكُمۡ نَارࣰ ا تَلَظَّىٰ14

Ayah 14

Translation of the meaningAnd so I have warned you of a raging Fire

لَا يَصۡلَىٰهَآ إِلَّا ٱلۡأَشۡقَى15

Ayah 15

Translation of the meaningin which none will burn except the most wretched—

ٱلَّذِي كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ16

Ayah 16

Translation of the meaningwho deny and turn away

وَسَيُجَنَّبُهَا ٱلۡأَتۡقَى17

Ayah 17

Translation of the meaningBut the righteous will be spared from it—

ٱلَّذِي يُؤۡتِي مَالَهُۥ يَتَزَكَّىٰ18

Ayah 18

Translation of the meaningwho donate ˹some of˺ their wealth only to purify themselves

وَمَا لِأَحَدٍ عِندَهُۥ مِن نِّعۡمَةࣲ تُجۡزَىٰٓ19

Ayah 19

Translation of the meaningnot in return for someone’s favours

إِلَّا ٱبۡتِغَآءَ وَجۡهِ رَبِّهِ ٱلۡأَعۡلَىٰ20

Ayah 20

Translation of the meaningbut seeking the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High

وَلَسَوۡفَ يَرۡضَىٰ21

Ayah 21

Translation of the meaningThey will certainly be pleased
