The Morning Star

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلطَّارِقِ1

Ayah 1

Translation of the meaningBy the heaven and the nightly star

وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلطَّارِقُ2

Ayah 2

Translation of the meaningAnd what will make you realize what the nightly star is

ٱلنَّجۡمُ ٱلثَّاقِبُ3

Ayah 3

Translation of the meaning˹It is˺ the star of piercing brightness

إِن كُلُّ نَفۡسࣲ لَّمَّا عَلَيۡهَا حَافِظࣱ‏4

Ayah 4

Translation of the meaningThere is no soul without a vigilant angel ˹recording everything˺

فَلۡيَنظُرِ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ5

Ayah 5

Translation of the meaningLet people then consider what they were created from

خُلِقَ مِن مَّآءࣲ دَافِقࣲ‏6

Ayah 6

Translation of the meaning˹They were˺ created from a spurting fluid

يَخۡرُجُ مِنۢ بَيۡنِ ٱلصُّلۡبِ وَٱلتَّرَآئِبِ7

Ayah 7

Translation of the meaningstemming from between the backbone and the ribcage

إِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ رَجۡعِهِۦ لَقَادِرࣱ‏8

Ayah 8

Translation of the meaningSurely He is fully capable of bringing them back ˹to life˺

يَوۡمَ تُبۡلَى ٱلسَّرَآئِرُ9

Ayah 9

Translation of the meaningon the Day all secrets will be disclosed

فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن قُوَّةࣲ وَلَا نَاصِرࣲ‏10

Ayah 10

Translation of the meaningThen one will have neither power nor ˹any˺ helper

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلرَّجۡعِ11

Ayah 11

Translation of the meaningBy the sky with its recurring cycles

وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ ذَاتِ ٱلصَّدۡعِ12

Ayah 12

Translation of the meaningand the earth with its sprouting plants

إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوۡلࣱ فَصۡلࣱ‏13

Ayah 13

Translation of the meaningSurely this ˹Quran˺ is a decisive word

وَمَا هُوَ بِٱلۡهَزۡلِ14

Ayah 14

Translation of the meaningand is not to be taken lightly

إِنَّهُمۡ يَكِيدُونَ كَيۡدࣰ ا15

Ayah 15

Translation of the meaningThey are certainly devising ˹evil˺ plans

وَأَكِيدُ كَيۡدࣰ ا16

Ayah 16

Translation of the meaningbut I too am planning

فَمَهِّلِ ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ أَمۡهِلۡهُمۡ رُوَيۡدَۢا17

Ayah 17

Translation of the meaningSo bear with the disbelievers ˹O Prophet˺. Let them be for ˹just˺ a little while
