The Splitting Open

إِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ ٱنشَقَّتۡ1

Ayah 1

Translation of the meaningWhen the sky bursts open

وَأَذِنَتۡ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتۡ2

Ayah 2

Translation of the meaningobeying its Lord as it must

وَإِذَا ٱلۡأَرۡضُ مُدَّتۡ3

Ayah 3

Translation of the meaningand when the earth is flattened out

وَأَلۡقَتۡ مَا فِيهَا وَتَخَلَّتۡ4

Ayah 4

Translation of the meaningand ejects ˹all˺ its contents and becomes empty

وَأَذِنَتۡ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتۡ5

Ayah 5

Translation of the meaningobeying its Lord as it must, ˹surely you will all be judged˺

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ إِنَّكَ كَادِحٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ كَدۡحࣰ ا فَمُلَٰقِيهِ6

Ayah 6

Translation of the meaningO humanity! Indeed, you are labouring restlessly towards your Lord, and will ˹eventually˺ meet the consequences

فَأَمَّا مَنۡ أُوتِيَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ7

Ayah 7

Translation of the meaningAs for those who are given their record in their right hand

فَسَوۡفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِسَابࣰ ا يَسِيرࣰ ا8

Ayah 8

Translation of the meaningthey will have an easy reckoning

وَيَنقَلِبُ إِلَىٰٓ أَهۡلِهِۦ مَسۡرُورࣰ ا9

Ayah 9

Translation of the meaningand will return to their people joyfully

وَأَمَّا مَنۡ أُوتِيَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ وَرَآءَ ظَهۡرِهِۦ10

Ayah 10

Translation of the meaningAnd as for those who are given their record ˹in their left hand˺ from behind their backs

فَسَوۡفَ يَدۡعُواْ ثُبُورࣰ ا11

Ayah 11

Translation of the meaningthey will cry for ˹instant˺ destruction

وَيَصۡلَىٰ سَعِيرًا12

Ayah 12

Translation of the meaningand will burn in the blazing Fire

إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ فِيٓ أَهۡلِهِۦ مَسۡرُورًا13

Ayah 13

Translation of the meaningFor they used to be prideful among their people

إِنَّهُۥ ظَنَّ أَن لَّن يَحُورَ14

Ayah 14

Translation of the meaningthinking they would never return ˹to Allah˺

بَلَىٰٓۚ إِنَّ رَبَّهُۥ كَانَ بِهِۦ بَصِيرࣰ ا15

Ayah 15

Translation of the meaningYes ˹they would˺! Surely their Lord has always been All-Seeing of them

فَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِٱلشَّفَقِ16

Ayah 16

Translation of the meaningSo, I do swear by the twilight

وَٱلَّيۡلِ وَمَا وَسَقَ17

Ayah 17

Translation of the meaningAnd by the night and whatever it envelops

وَٱلۡقَمَرِ إِذَا ٱتَّسَقَ18

Ayah 18

Translation of the meaningAnd by the moon when it waxes full

لَتَرۡكَبُنَّ طَبَقًا عَن طَبَقࣲ‏19

Ayah 19

Translation of the meaningYou will certainly pass from one state to another

فَمَا لَهُمۡ لَا يُؤۡمِنُونَ20

Ayah 20

Translation of the meaningSo what is the matter with them that they do not believe

وَإِذَا قُرِئَ عَلَيۡهِمُ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانُ لَا يَسۡجُدُونَۤ۩21

Ayah 21

Translation of the meaningand when the Quran is recited to them, they do not bow down ˹in submission˺

بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ يُكَذِّبُونَ22

Ayah 22

Translation of the meaningIn fact, the disbelievers persist in denial

وَٱللَّهُ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَا يُوعُونَ23

Ayah 23

Translation of the meaningBut Allah knows best whatever they hide

فَبَشِّرۡهُم بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ24

Ayah 24

Translation of the meaningSo give them good news of a painful punishment

إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ لَهُمۡ أَجۡرٌ غَيۡرُ مَمۡنُونِۭ25

Ayah 25

Translation of the meaningBut those who believe and do good will have a never-ending reward
