The Cleaving

إِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ ٱنفَطَرَتۡ1

Ayah 1

Translation of the meaningWhen the sky splits open

وَإِذَا ٱلۡكَوَاكِبُ ٱنتَثَرَتۡ2

Ayah 2

Translation of the meaningand when the stars fall away

وَإِذَا ٱلۡبِحَارُ فُجِّرَتۡ3

Ayah 3

Translation of the meaningand when the seas burst forth

وَإِذَا ٱلۡقُبُورُ بُعۡثِرَتۡ4

Ayah 4

Translation of the meaningand when the graves spill out

عَلِمَتۡ نَفۡسࣱ مَّا قَدَّمَتۡ وَأَخَّرَتۡ5

Ayah 5

Translation of the meaning˹then˺ each soul will know what it has sent forth or left behind

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ مَا غَرَّكَ بِرَبِّكَ ٱلۡكَرِيمِ6

Ayah 6

Translation of the meaningO humanity! What has emboldened you against your Lord, the Most Generous

ٱلَّذِي خَلَقَكَ فَسَوَّىٰكَ فَعَدَلَكَ7

Ayah 7

Translation of the meaningWho created you, fashioned you, and perfected your design

فِيٓ أَيِّ صُورَةࣲ مَّا شَآءَ رَكَّبَكَ8

Ayah 8

Translation of the meaningmoulding you in whatever form He willed

كَلَّا بَلۡ تُكَذِّبُونَ بِٱلدِّينِ9

Ayah 9

Translation of the meaningBut no! In fact, you deny the ˹final˺ Judgment

وَإِنَّ عَلَيۡكُمۡ لَحَٰفِظِينَ10

Ayah 10

Translation of the meaningwhile you are certainly observed by vigilant

كِرَامࣰ ا كَٰتِبِينَ11

Ayah 11

Translation of the meaninghonourable angels, recording ˹everything˺

يَعۡلَمُونَ مَا تَفۡعَلُونَ12

Ayah 12

Translation of the meaningThey know whatever you do

إِنَّ ٱلۡأَبۡرَارَ لَفِي نَعِيمࣲ‏13

Ayah 13

Translation of the meaningIndeed, the virtuous will be in bliss

وَإِنَّ ٱلۡفُجَّارَ لَفِي جَحِيمࣲ‏14

Ayah 14

Translation of the meaningand the wicked will be in Hell

يَصۡلَوۡنَهَا يَوۡمَ ٱلدِّينِ15

Ayah 15

Translation of the meaningburning in it on Judgment Day

وَمَا هُمۡ عَنۡهَا بِغَآئِبِينَ16

Ayah 16

Translation of the meaningand they will have no escape from it

وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا يَوۡمُ ٱلدِّينِ17

Ayah 17

Translation of the meaningWhat will make you realize what Judgment Day is

ثُمَّ مَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا يَوۡمُ ٱلدِّينِ18

Ayah 18

Translation of the meaningAgain, what will make you realize what Judgment Day is

يَوۡمَ لَا تَمۡلِكُ نَفۡسࣱ لِّنَفۡسࣲ شَيۡـࣰٔ اۖ وَٱلۡأَمۡرُ يَوۡمَئِذࣲ لِّلَّهِ19

Ayah 19

Translation of the meaning˹It is˺ the Day no soul will be of ˹any˺ benefit to another whatsoever, for all authority on that Day belongs to Allah ˹entirely˺
