Surah 76verses 31 Revealed in MedinanJuz 29–29

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

هَلۡ أَتَىٰ عَلَى ٱلۡإِنسَٰنِ حِينࣱ مِّنَ ٱلدَّهۡرِ لَمۡ يَكُن شَيۡـࣰٔ ا مَّذۡكُورًا

Translation of the meaningIs there not a period of time when each human is nothing yet worth mentioning

إِنَّا خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ مِن نُّطۡفَةٍ أَمۡشَاجࣲ نَّبۡتَلِيهِ فَجَعَلۡنَٰهُ سَمِيعَۢا بَصِيرًا

Translation of the meaning˹For˺ indeed, We ˹alone˺ created humans from a drop of mixed fluids, ˹in order˺ to test them, so We made them hear and see

إِنَّا هَدَيۡنَٰهُ ٱلسَّبِيلَ إِمَّا شَاكِرࣰ ا وَإِمَّا كَفُورًا

Translation of the meaningWe already showed them the Way, whether they ˹choose to˺ be grateful or ungrateful

إِنَّآ أَعۡتَدۡنَا لِلۡكَٰفِرِينَ سَلَٰسِلَاْ وَأَغۡلَٰلࣰ ا وَسَعِيرًا

Translation of the meaningIndeed, We have prepared for the disbelievers chains, shackles, and a blazing Fire

إِنَّ ٱلۡأَبۡرَارَ يَشۡرَبُونَ مِن كَأۡسࣲ كَانَ مِزَاجُهَا كَافُورًا

Translation of the meaningIndeed, the virtuous will have a drink ˹of pure wine˺—flavoured with camphor—

عَيۡنࣰ ا يَشۡرَبُ بِهَا عِبَادُ ٱللَّهِ يُفَجِّرُونَهَا تَفۡجِيرࣰ ا

Translation of the meaning˹from˺ a spring where Allah’s servants will drink, flowing at their will

يُوفُونَ بِٱلنَّذۡرِ وَيَخَافُونَ يَوۡمࣰ ا كَانَ شَرُّهُۥ مُسۡتَطِيرࣰ ا

Translation of the meaningThey ˹are those who˺ fulfil ˹their˺ vows and fear a Day of sweeping horror

وَيُطۡعِمُونَ ٱلطَّعَامَ عَلَىٰ حُبِّهِۦ مِسۡكِينࣰ ا وَيَتِيمࣰ ا وَأَسِيرًا

Translation of the meaningand give food—despite their desire for it—to the poor, the orphan, and the captive

إِنَّمَا نُطۡعِمُكُمۡ لِوَجۡهِ ٱللَّهِ لَا نُرِيدُ مِنكُمۡ جَزَآءࣰ وَلَا شُكُورًا

Translation of the meaning˹saying to themselves,˺ “We feed you only for the sake of Allah, seeking neither reward nor thanks from you

إِنَّا نَخَافُ مِن رَّبِّنَا يَوۡمًا عَبُوسࣰ ا قَمۡطَرِيرࣰ ا

Translation of the meaningWe fear from our Lord a horribly distressful Day.”

فَوَقَىٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُ شَرَّ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلۡيَوۡمِ وَلَقَّىٰهُمۡ نَضۡرَةࣰ وَسُرُورࣰ ا

Translation of the meaningSo Allah will deliver them from the horror of that Day, and grant them radiance and joy

وَجَزَىٰهُم بِمَا صَبَرُواْ جَنَّةࣰ وَحَرِيرࣰ ا

Translation of the meaningand reward them for their perseverance with a Garden ˹in Paradise˺ and ˹garments of˺ silk

مُّتَّكِـِٔينَ فِيهَا عَلَى ٱلۡأَرَآئِكِۖ لَا يَرَوۡنَ فِيهَا شَمۡسࣰ ا وَلَا زَمۡهَرِيرࣰ ا

Translation of the meaningThere they will be reclining on ˹canopied˺ couches, never seeing scorching heat or bitter cold

وَدَانِيَةً عَلَيۡهِمۡ ظِلَٰلُهَا وَذُلِّلَتۡ قُطُوفُهَا تَذۡلِيلࣰ ا

Translation of the meaningThe Garden’s shade will be right above them, and its fruit will be made very easy to reach

وَيُطَافُ عَلَيۡهِم بِـَٔانِيَةࣲ مِّن فِضَّةࣲ وَأَكۡوَابࣲ كَانَتۡ قَوَارِيرَا۠

Translation of the meaningThey will be waited on with silver vessels and cups of crystal—

قَوَارِيرَاْ مِن فِضَّةࣲ قَدَّرُوهَا تَقۡدِيرࣰ ا

Translation of the meaningcrystalline silver, filled precisely as desired

وَيُسۡقَوۡنَ فِيهَا كَأۡسࣰ ا كَانَ مِزَاجُهَا زَنجَبِيلًا

Translation of the meaningAnd they will be given a drink ˹of pure wine˺ flavoured with ginger

عَيۡنࣰ ا فِيهَا تُسَمَّىٰ سَلۡسَبِيلࣰ ا

Translation of the meaningfrom a spring there, called Salsabîl

۞وَيَطُوفُ عَلَيۡهِمۡ وِلۡدَٰنࣱ مُّخَلَّدُونَ إِذَا رَأَيۡتَهُمۡ حَسِبۡتَهُمۡ لُؤۡلُؤࣰ ا مَّنثُورࣰ ا

Translation of the meaningThey will be waited on by eternal youths. If you saw them, you would think they were scattered pearls

وَإِذَا رَأَيۡتَ ثَمَّ رَأَيۡتَ نَعِيمࣰ ا وَمُلۡكࣰ ا كَبِيرًا

Translation of the meaningAnd if you looked around, you would see ˹indescribable˺ bliss and a vast kingdom

عَٰلِيَهُمۡ ثِيَابُ سُندُسٍ خُضۡرࣱ وَإِسۡتَبۡرَقࣱۖ وَحُلُّوٓاْ أَسَاوِرَ مِن فِضَّةࣲ وَسَقَىٰهُمۡ رَبُّهُمۡ شَرَابࣰ ا طَهُورًا

Translation of the meaningThe virtuous will be ˹dressed˺ in garments of fine green silk and rich brocade, and adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a purifying drink

إِنَّ هَٰذَا كَانَ لَكُمۡ جَزَآءࣰ وَكَانَ سَعۡيُكُم مَّشۡكُورًا

Translation of the meaning˹And they will be told,˺ “All this is surely a reward for you. Your striving has been appreciated.”

إِنَّا نَحۡنُ نَزَّلۡنَا عَلَيۡكَ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ تَنزِيلࣰ ا

Translation of the meaningIndeed, it is We Who have revealed the Quran to you ˹O Prophet˺ in stages

فَٱصۡبِرۡ لِحُكۡمِ رَبِّكَ وَلَا تُطِعۡ مِنۡهُمۡ ءَاثِمًا أَوۡ كَفُورࣰ ا

Translation of the meaningSo be patient with your Lord’s decree, and do not yield to any evildoer or ˹staunch˺ disbeliever from among them

وَٱذۡكُرِ ٱسۡمَ رَبِّكَ بُكۡرَةࣰ وَأَصِيلࣰ ا

Translation of the meaning˹Always˺ remember the Name of your Lord morning and evening

وَمِنَ ٱلَّيۡلِ فَٱسۡجُدۡ لَهُۥ وَسَبِّحۡهُ لَيۡلࣰ ا طَوِيلًا

Translation of the meaningand prostrate before Him during part of the night, and glorify Him long at night

إِنَّ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ يُحِبُّونَ ٱلۡعَاجِلَةَ وَيَذَرُونَ وَرَآءَهُمۡ يَوۡمࣰ ا ثَقِيلࣰ ا

Translation of the meaningSurely those ˹pagans˺ love this fleeting world, ˹totally˺ neglecting a weighty Day ahead of them

نَّحۡنُ خَلَقۡنَٰهُمۡ وَشَدَدۡنَآ أَسۡرَهُمۡۖ وَإِذَا شِئۡنَا بَدَّلۡنَآ أَمۡثَٰلَهُمۡ تَبۡدِيلًا

Translation of the meaningIt is We Who created them and perfected their ˹physical˺ form. But if We will, We can easily replace them with others

إِنَّ هَٰذِهِۦ تَذۡكِرَةࣱۖ فَمَن شَآءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ سَبِيلࣰ ا

Translation of the meaningSurely this is a reminder. So let whoever wills take the ˹Right˺ Way to their Lord

وَمَا تَشَآءُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمࣰ ا

Translation of the meaningBut you cannot will ˹to do so˺ unless Allah wills. Indeed, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise

يُدۡخِلُ مَن يَشَآءُ فِي رَحۡمَتِهِۦۚ وَٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ أَعَدَّ لَهُمۡ عَذَابًا أَلِيمَۢا

Translation of the meaningHe admits whoever He wills into His mercy. As for the wrongdoers, He has prepared for them a painful punishment
