The Resurrection

لَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِيَوۡمِ ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ1

Ayah 1

Translation of the meaningI do swear by the Day of Judgment

وَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِٱلنَّفۡسِ ٱللَّوَّامَةِ2

Ayah 2

Translation of the meaningAnd I do swear by the self-reproaching soul

أَيَحۡسَبُ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ أَلَّن نَّجۡمَعَ عِظَامَهُۥ3

Ayah 3

Translation of the meaningDo people think We cannot reassemble their bones

بَلَىٰ قَٰدِرِينَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّسَوِّيَ بَنَانَهُۥ4

Ayah 4

Translation of the meaningYes ˹indeed˺! We are ˹most˺ capable of restoring ˹even˺ their very fingertips

بَلۡ يُرِيدُ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ لِيَفۡجُرَ أَمَامَهُۥ5

Ayah 5

Translation of the meaningStill people want to deny what is yet to come

يَسۡـَٔلُ أَيَّانَ يَوۡمُ ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ6

Ayah 6

Translation of the meaningasking ˹mockingly˺, “When is this Day of Judgment?”

فَإِذَا بَرِقَ ٱلۡبَصَرُ7

Ayah 7

Translation of the meaningBut when the sight is stunned

وَخَسَفَ ٱلۡقَمَرُ8

Ayah 8

Translation of the meaningand the moon is dimmed

وَجُمِعَ ٱلشَّمۡسُ وَٱلۡقَمَرُ9

Ayah 9

Translation of the meaningand the sun and the moon are brought together

يَقُولُ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ يَوۡمَئِذٍ أَيۡنَ ٱلۡمَفَرُّ10

Ayah 10

Translation of the meaningon that Day one will cry, “Where is the escape?”

كَلَّا لَا وَزَرَ11

Ayah 11

Translation of the meaningBut no! There will be no refuge

إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوۡمَئِذٍ ٱلۡمُسۡتَقَرُّ12

Ayah 12

Translation of the meaningOn that Day all will end up before your Lord

يُنَبَّؤُاْ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ يَوۡمَئِذِۭ بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَأَخَّرَ13

Ayah 13

Translation of the meaningAll will then be informed of what they have sent forth and left behind

بَلِ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ عَلَىٰ نَفۡسِهِۦ بَصِيرَةࣱ‏14

Ayah 14

Translation of the meaningIn fact, people will testify against their own souls

وَلَوۡ أَلۡقَىٰ مَعَاذِيرَهُۥ15

Ayah 15

Translation of the meaningdespite the excuses they come up with

لَا تُحَرِّكۡ بِهِۦ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعۡجَلَ بِهِۦٓ16

Ayah 16

Translation of the meaningDo not rush your tongue trying to memorize ˹a revelation of˺ the Quran

إِنَّ عَلَيۡنَا جَمۡعَهُۥ وَقُرۡءَانَهُۥ17

Ayah 17

Translation of the meaningIt is certainly upon Us to ˹make you˺ memorize and recite it

فَإِذَا قَرَأۡنَٰهُ فَٱتَّبِعۡ قُرۡءَانَهُۥ18

Ayah 18

Translation of the meaningSo once We have recited a revelation ˹through Gabriel˺, follow its recitation ˹closely˺

ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيۡنَا بَيَانَهُۥ19

Ayah 19

Translation of the meaningThen it is surely upon Us to make it clear ˹to you˺

كَلَّا بَلۡ تُحِبُّونَ ٱلۡعَاجِلَةَ20

Ayah 20

Translation of the meaningBut no! In fact, you love this fleeting world

وَتَذَرُونَ ٱلۡأٓخِرَةَ21

Ayah 21

Translation of the meaningand neglect the Hereafter

وُجُوهࣱ يَوۡمَئِذࣲ نَّاضِرَةٌ22

Ayah 22

Translation of the meaningOn that Day ˹some˺ faces will be bright

إِلَىٰ رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةࣱ‏23

Ayah 23

Translation of the meaninglooking at their Lord

وَوُجُوهࣱ يَوۡمَئِذِۭ بَاسِرَةࣱ‏24

Ayah 24

Translation of the meaningAnd ˹other˺ faces will be gloomy

تَظُنُّ أَن يُفۡعَلَ بِهَا فَاقِرَةࣱ‏25

Ayah 25

Translation of the meaninganticipating something devastating to befall them

كَلَّآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلتَّرَاقِيَ26

Ayah 26

Translation of the meaningBut no! ˹Beware of the day˺ when the soul reaches the collar bone ˹as it leaves˺

وَقِيلَ مَنۡۜ رَاقࣲ‏27

Ayah 27

Translation of the meaningand it will be said, “Is there any healer ˹who can save this life˺?”

وَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ ٱلۡفِرَاقُ28

Ayah 28

Translation of the meaningAnd the dying person realizes it is ˹their˺ time to depart

وَٱلۡتَفَّتِ ٱلسَّاقُ بِٱلسَّاقِ29

Ayah 29

Translation of the meaningand ˹then˺ their feet are tied together ˹in a shroud˺

إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوۡمَئِذٍ ٱلۡمَسَاقُ30

Ayah 30

Translation of the meaningOn that day they will be driven to your Lord ˹alone˺

فَلَا صَدَّقَ وَلَا صَلَّىٰ31

Ayah 31

Translation of the meaningThis denier neither believed nor prayed

وَلَٰكِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ32

Ayah 32

Translation of the meaningbut persisted in denial and turned away

ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ إِلَىٰٓ أَهۡلِهِۦ يَتَمَطَّىٰٓ33

Ayah 33

Translation of the meaningthen went to their own people, walking boastfully

أَوۡلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوۡلَىٰ34

Ayah 34

Translation of the meaningWoe to you, and more woe

ثُمَّ أَوۡلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوۡلَىٰٓ35

Ayah 35

Translation of the meaningAgain, woe to you, and even more woe

أَيَحۡسَبُ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ أَن يُتۡرَكَ سُدًى36

Ayah 36

Translation of the meaningDo people think they will be left without purpose

أَلَمۡ يَكُ نُطۡفَةࣰ مِّن مَّنِيࣲّ يُمۡنَىٰ37

Ayah 37

Translation of the meaningWere they not ˹once˺ a sperm-drop emitted

ثُمَّ كَانَ عَلَقَةࣰ فَخَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ38

Ayah 38

Translation of the meaningThen they became a clinging clot ˹of blood˺, then He developed and perfected their form

فَجَعَلَ مِنۡهُ ٱلزَّوۡجَيۡنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلۡأُنثَىٰٓ39

Ayah 39

Translation of the meaningproducing from it both sexes, male and female

أَلَيۡسَ ذَٰلِكَ بِقَٰدِرٍ عَلَىٰٓ أَن يُحۡـِۧيَ ٱلۡمَوۡتَىٰ40

Ayah 40

Translation of the meaningIs such ˹a Creator˺ unable to bring the dead back to life
