The Beneficent

Surah 55verses 78 Revealed in MedinanJuz 27–27

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنُ

Ayah 1

Translation of the meaningThe Most Compassionate

عَلَّمَ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ

Ayah 2

Translation of the meaningtaught the Quran

خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ

Ayah 3

Translation of the meaningcreated humanity

عَلَّمَهُ ٱلۡبَيَانَ

Ayah 4

Translation of the meaning˹and˺ taught them speech

ٱلشَّمۡسُ وَٱلۡقَمَرُ بِحُسۡبَانࣲ‏

Ayah 5

Translation of the meaningThe sun and the moon ˹travel˺ with precision

وَٱلنَّجۡمُ وَٱلشَّجَرُ يَسۡجُدَانِ

Ayah 6

Translation of the meaningThe stars and the trees bow down ˹in submission˺

وَٱلسَّمَآءَ رَفَعَهَا وَوَضَعَ ٱلۡمِيزَانَ

Ayah 7

Translation of the meaningAs for the sky, He raised it ˹high˺, and set the balance ˹of justice˺

أَلَّا تَطۡغَوۡاْ فِي ٱلۡمِيزَانِ

Ayah 8

Translation of the meaningso that you do not defraud the scales

وَأَقِيمُواْ ٱلۡوَزۡنَ بِٱلۡقِسۡطِ وَلَا تُخۡسِرُواْ ٱلۡمِيزَانَ

Ayah 9

Translation of the meaningWeigh with justice, and do not give short measure

وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَضَعَهَا لِلۡأَنَامِ

Ayah 10

Translation of the meaningHe laid out the earth for all beings

فِيهَا فَٰكِهَةࣱ وَٱلنَّخۡلُ ذَاتُ ٱلۡأَكۡمَامِ

Ayah 11

Translation of the meaningIn it are fruit, palm trees with date stalks

وَٱلۡحَبُّ ذُو ٱلۡعَصۡفِ وَٱلرَّيۡحَانُ

Ayah 12

Translation of the meaningand grain with husks, and aromatic plants

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Ayah 13

Translation of the meaningThen which of your Lord’s favours will you ˹humans and jinn˺ both deny

خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ مِن صَلۡصَٰلࣲ كَٱلۡفَخَّارِ

Ayah 14

Translation of the meaningHe created humankind from ˹sounding˺ clay like pottery

وَخَلَقَ ٱلۡجَآنَّ مِن مَّارِجࣲ مِّن نَّارࣲ‏

Ayah 15

Translation of the meaningand created jinn from a ˹smokeless˺ flame of fire

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Ayah 16

Translation of the meaningThen which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny

رَبُّ ٱلۡمَشۡرِقَيۡنِ وَرَبُّ ٱلۡمَغۡرِبَيۡنِ

Ayah 17

Translation of the meaning˹He is˺ Lord of the two easts and the two wests

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Ayah 18

Translation of the meaningThen which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny

مَرَجَ ٱلۡبَحۡرَيۡنِ يَلۡتَقِيَانِ

Ayah 19

Translation of the meaningHe merges the two bodies of ˹fresh and salt˺ water

بَيۡنَهُمَا بَرۡزَخࣱ لَّا يَبۡغِيَانِ

Ayah 20

Translation of the meaningyet between them is a barrier they never cross

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Ayah 21

Translation of the meaningThen which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny

يَخۡرُجُ مِنۡهُمَا ٱللُّؤۡلُؤُ وَٱلۡمَرۡجَانُ

Ayah 22

Translation of the meaningOut of both ˹waters˺ come forth pearls and coral

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Ayah 23

Translation of the meaningThen which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny

وَلَهُ ٱلۡجَوَارِ ٱلۡمُنشَـَٔاتُ فِي ٱلۡبَحۡرِ كَٱلۡأَعۡلَٰمِ

Ayah 24

Translation of the meaningTo Him belong the ships with raised sails, sailing through the seas like mountains

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Ayah 25

Translation of the meaningThen which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny

كُلُّ مَنۡ عَلَيۡهَا فَانࣲ‏

Ayah 26

Translation of the meaningEvery being on earth is bound to perish

وَيَبۡقَىٰ وَجۡهُ رَبِّكَ ذُو ٱلۡجَلَٰلِ وَٱلۡإِكۡرَامِ

Ayah 27

Translation of the meaningOnly your Lord Himself, full of Majesty and Honour, will remain ˹forever˺

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Ayah 28

Translation of the meaningThen which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny

يَسۡـَٔلُهُۥ مَن فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ كُلَّ يَوۡمٍ هُوَ فِي شَأۡنࣲ‏

Ayah 29

Translation of the meaningAll those in the heavens and the earth are dependent on Him. Day in and day out He has something to bring about

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Ayah 30

Translation of the meaningThen which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny

سَنَفۡرُغُ لَكُمۡ أَيُّهَ ٱلثَّقَلَانِ

Ayah 31

Translation of the meaningWe will soon attend to you ˹for judgment˺, O two multitudes ˹of jinn and humans˺

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Ayah 32

Translation of the meaningThen which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny

يَٰمَعۡشَرَ ٱلۡجِنِّ وَٱلۡإِنسِ إِنِ ٱسۡتَطَعۡتُمۡ أَن تَنفُذُواْ مِنۡ أَقۡطَارِ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَٱنفُذُواْۚ لَا تَنفُذُونَ إِلَّا بِسُلۡطَٰنࣲ‏

Ayah 33

Translation of the meaningO assembly of jinn and humans! If you can penetrate beyond the realms of the heavens and the earth, then do so. ˹But˺ you cannot do that without ˹Our˺ authority

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Ayah 34

Translation of the meaningThen which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny

يُرۡسَلُ عَلَيۡكُمَا شُوَاظࣱ مِّن نَّارࣲ وَنُحَاسࣱ فَلَا تَنتَصِرَانِ

Ayah 35

Translation of the meaningFlames of fire and ˹molten˺ copper will be sent against you, and you will not be able to defend one another

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Ayah 36

Translation of the meaningThen which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny

فَإِذَا ٱنشَقَّتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَكَانَتۡ وَرۡدَةࣰ كَٱلدِّهَانِ

Ayah 37

Translation of the meaning˹How horrible will it be˺ when the heavens will split apart, becoming rose-red like ˹burnt˺ oil

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Ayah 38

Translation of the meaningThen which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny

فَيَوۡمَئِذࣲ لَّا يُسۡـَٔلُ عَن ذَنۢبِهِۦٓ إِنسࣱ وَلَا جَآنࣱّ‏

Ayah 39

Translation of the meaningOn that Day there will be no need for any human or jinn to be asked about their sins

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Ayah 40

Translation of the meaningThen which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny

يُعۡرَفُ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُونَ بِسِيمَٰهُمۡ فَيُؤۡخَذُ بِٱلنَّوَٰصِي وَٱلۡأَقۡدَامِ

Ayah 41

Translation of the meaningThe wicked will be recognized by their appearance, then will be seized by ˹their˺ forelocks and feet

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Ayah 42

Translation of the meaningThen which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny

هَٰذِهِۦ جَهَنَّمُ ٱلَّتِي يُكَذِّبُ بِهَا ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُونَ

Ayah 43

Translation of the meaning˹They will be told,˺ “This is the Hell which the wicked denied.”

يَطُوفُونَ بَيۡنَهَا وَبَيۡنَ حَمِيمٍ ءَانࣲ‏

Ayah 44

Translation of the meaningThey will alternate between its flames and scalding water

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Ayah 45

Translation of the meaningThen which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny

وَلِمَنۡ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِۦ جَنَّتَانِ

Ayah 46

Translation of the meaningAnd whoever is in awe of standing before their Lord will have two Gardens

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Ayah 47

Translation of the meaningThen which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny

ذَوَاتَآ أَفۡنَانࣲ‏

Ayah 48

Translation of the meaning˹Both will be˺ with lush branches

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Ayah 49

Translation of the meaningThen which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny

فِيهِمَا عَيۡنَانِ تَجۡرِيَانِ

Ayah 50

Translation of the meaningIn each ˹Garden˺ will be two flowing springs

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Ayah 51

Translation of the meaningThen which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny

فِيهِمَا مِن كُلِّ فَٰكِهَةࣲ زَوۡجَانِ

Ayah 52

Translation of the meaningIn each will be two types of every fruit

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Ayah 53

Translation of the meaningThen which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny

مُتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَىٰ فُرُشِۭ بَطَآئِنُهَا مِنۡ إِسۡتَبۡرَقࣲۚ وَجَنَى ٱلۡجَنَّتَيۡنِ دَانࣲ‏

Ayah 54

Translation of the meaningThose ˹believers˺ will recline on furnishings lined with rich brocade. And the fruit of both Gardens will hang within reach

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Ayah 55

Translation of the meaningThen which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny

فِيهِنَّ قَٰصِرَٰتُ ٱلطَّرۡفِ لَمۡ يَطۡمِثۡهُنَّ إِنسࣱ قَبۡلَهُمۡ وَلَا جَآنࣱّ‏

Ayah 56

Translation of the meaningIn both ˹Gardens˺ will be maidens of modest gaze, who no human or jinn has ever touched before

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Ayah 57

Translation of the meaningThen which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny

كَأَنَّهُنَّ ٱلۡيَاقُوتُ وَٱلۡمَرۡجَانُ

Ayah 58

Translation of the meaningThose ˹maidens˺ will be ˹as elegant˺ as rubies and coral

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Ayah 59

Translation of the meaningThen which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny

هَلۡ جَزَآءُ ٱلۡإِحۡسَٰنِ إِلَّا ٱلۡإِحۡسَٰنُ

Ayah 60

Translation of the meaningIs there any reward for goodness except goodness

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Ayah 61

Translation of the meaningThen which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny

وَمِن دُونِهِمَا جَنَّتَانِ

Ayah 62

Translation of the meaningAnd below these two ˹Gardens˺ will be two others

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Ayah 63

Translation of the meaningThen which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny

مُدۡهَآمَّتَانِ

Ayah 64

Translation of the meaningBoth will be dark green

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Ayah 65

Translation of the meaningThen which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny

فِيهِمَا عَيۡنَانِ نَضَّاخَتَانِ

Ayah 66

Translation of the meaningIn each will be two gushing springs

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Ayah 67

Translation of the meaningThen which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny

فِيهِمَا فَٰكِهَةࣱ وَنَخۡلࣱ وَرُمَّانࣱ‏

Ayah 68

Translation of the meaningIn both will be fruit, palm trees, and pomegranates

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Ayah 69

Translation of the meaningThen which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny

فِيهِنَّ خَيۡرَٰتٌ حِسَانࣱ‏

Ayah 70

Translation of the meaningIn all Gardens will be noble, pleasant mates

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Ayah 71

Translation of the meaningThen which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny

حُورࣱ مَّقۡصُورَٰتࣱ فِي ٱلۡخِيَامِ

Ayah 72

Translation of the meaning˹They will be˺ maidens with gorgeous eyes, reserved in pavilions

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Ayah 73

Translation of the meaningThen which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny

لَمۡ يَطۡمِثۡهُنَّ إِنسࣱ قَبۡلَهُمۡ وَلَا جَآنࣱّ‏

Ayah 74

Translation of the meaningNo human or jinn has ever touched these ˹maidens˺ before

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Ayah 75

Translation of the meaningThen which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny

مُتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَىٰ رَفۡرَفٍ خُضۡرࣲ وَعَبۡقَرِيٍّ حِسَانࣲ‏

Ayah 76

Translation of the meaningAll ˹believers˺ will be reclining on green cushions and splendid carpets

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Ayah 77

Translation of the meaningThen which of your Lord’s favours will you both deny

تَبَٰرَكَ ٱسۡمُ رَبِّكَ ذِي ٱلۡجَلَٰلِ وَٱلۡإِكۡرَامِ

Ayah 78

Translation of the meaningBlessed is the Name of your Lord, full of Majesty and Honour
