The Earthquake

إِذَا زُلۡزِلَتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ زِلۡزَالَهَا1

Ayah 1

Translation of the meaningWhen the earth is shaken ˹in˺ its ultimate quaking

وَأَخۡرَجَتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ أَثۡقَالَهَا2

Ayah 2

Translation of the meaningand when the earth throws out ˹all˺ its contents

وَقَالَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ مَا لَهَا3

Ayah 3

Translation of the meaningand humanity cries, “What is wrong with it?”—

يَوۡمَئِذࣲ تُحَدِّثُ أَخۡبَارَهَا4

Ayah 4

Translation of the meaningon that Day the earth will recount everything

بِأَنَّ رَبَّكَ أَوۡحَىٰ لَهَا5

Ayah 5

Translation of the meaninghaving been inspired by your Lord ˹to do so˺

يَوۡمَئِذࣲ يَصۡدُرُ ٱلنَّاسُ أَشۡتَاتࣰ ا لِّيُرَوۡاْ أَعۡمَٰلَهُمۡ6

Ayah 6

Translation of the meaningOn that Day people will proceed in separate groups to be shown ˹the consequences of˺ their deeds

فَمَن يَعۡمَلۡ مِثۡقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ خَيۡرࣰ ا يَرَهُۥ7

Ayah 7

Translation of the meaningSo whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it

وَمَن يَعۡمَلۡ مِثۡقَالَ ذَرَّةࣲ شَرࣰّ ا يَرَهُۥ8

Ayah 8

Translation of the meaningAnd whoever does an atom’s weight of evil will see it
