وَٱلطُّورِ1

Ayah 1

Translation of the meaningBy Mount Ṭûr

وَكِتَٰبࣲ مَّسۡطُورࣲ‏2

Ayah 2

Translation of the meaningAnd by the Book written

فِي رَقࣲّ مَّنشُورࣲ‏3

Ayah 3

Translation of the meaningon open pages ˹for all to read˺

وَٱلۡبَيۡتِ ٱلۡمَعۡمُورِ4

Ayah 4

Translation of the meaningAnd by the ˹Sacred˺ House frequently visited

وَٱلسَّقۡفِ ٱلۡمَرۡفُوعِ5

Ayah 5

Translation of the meaningAnd by the canopy raised ˹high˺

وَٱلۡبَحۡرِ ٱلۡمَسۡجُورِ6

Ayah 6

Translation of the meaningAnd by the seas set on fire

إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّكَ لَوَٰقِعࣱ‏7

Ayah 7

Translation of the meaningIndeed, the punishment of your Lord will come to pass—

مَّا لَهُۥ مِن دَافِعࣲ‏8

Ayah 8

Translation of the meaningnone will avert it—

يَوۡمَ تَمُورُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ مَوۡرࣰ ا9

Ayah 9

Translation of the meaningon the Day the heavens will be shaken violently

وَتَسِيرُ ٱلۡجِبَالُ سَيۡرࣰ ا10

Ayah 10

Translation of the meaningand the mountains will be blown away entirely

فَوَيۡلࣱ يَوۡمَئِذࣲ لِّلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ11

Ayah 11

Translation of the meaningThen woe on that Day to the deniers—

ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ فِي خَوۡضࣲ يَلۡعَبُونَ12

Ayah 12

Translation of the meaningthose who amuse themselves with falsehood

يَوۡمَ يُدَعُّونَ إِلَىٰ نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ دَعًّا13

Ayah 13

Translation of the meaning˹It is˺ the Day they will be fiercely shoved into the Fire of Hell

هَٰذِهِ ٱلنَّارُ ٱلَّتِي كُنتُم بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ14

Ayah 14

Translation of the meaning˹They will be told,˺ “This is the Fire which you used to deny

أَفَسِحۡرٌ هَٰذَآ أَمۡ أَنتُمۡ لَا تُبۡصِرُونَ15

Ayah 15

Translation of the meaningIs this magic, or do you not see

ٱصۡلَوۡهَا فَٱصۡبِرُوٓاْ أَوۡ لَا تَصۡبِرُواْ سَوَآءٌ عَلَيۡكُمۡۖ إِنَّمَا تُجۡزَوۡنَ مَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ16

Ayah 16

Translation of the meaningBurn in it! It is the same whether you endure ˹it˺ patiently or not. You are only rewarded for what you used to do.”

إِنَّ ٱلۡمُتَّقِينَ فِي جَنَّٰتࣲ وَنَعِيمࣲ‏17

Ayah 17

Translation of the meaningIndeed, the righteous will be in Gardens and bliss

فَٰكِهِينَ بِمَآ ءَاتَىٰهُمۡ رَبُّهُمۡ وَوَقَىٰهُمۡ رَبُّهُمۡ عَذَابَ ٱلۡجَحِيمِ18

Ayah 18

Translation of the meaningenjoying whatever their Lord will have granted them. And their Lord will have protected them from the torment of the Hellfire

كُلُواْ وَٱشۡرَبُواْ هَنِيٓـَٔۢا بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ19

Ayah 19

Translation of the meaning˹They will be told,˺ “Eat and drink happily for what you used to do.”

مُتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَىٰ سُرُرࣲ مَّصۡفُوفَةࣲۖ وَزَوَّجۡنَٰهُم بِحُورٍ عِينࣲ‏20

Ayah 20

Translation of the meaningThey will be reclining on thrones, ˹neatly˺ lined up ˹facing each other˺. And We will pair them to maidens with gorgeous eyes

وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَٱتَّبَعَتۡهُمۡ ذُرِّيَّتُهُم بِإِيمَٰنٍ أَلۡحَقۡنَا بِهِمۡ ذُرِّيَّتَهُمۡ وَمَآ أَلَتۡنَٰهُم مِّنۡ عَمَلِهِم مِّن شَيۡءࣲۚ كُلُّ ٱمۡرِيِٕۭ بِمَا كَسَبَ رَهِينࣱ‏21

Ayah 21

Translation of the meaningAs for those who believe and whose descendants follow them in faith, We will elevate their descendants to their rank, never discounting anything ˹of the reward˺ of their deeds. Every person will reap only what they sowed

وَأَمۡدَدۡنَٰهُم بِفَٰكِهَةࣲ وَلَحۡمࣲ مِّمَّا يَشۡتَهُونَ22

Ayah 22

Translation of the meaningAnd We will ˹continually˺ provide them with whatever fruit or meat they desire

يَتَنَٰزَعُونَ فِيهَا كَأۡسࣰ ا لَّا لَغۡوࣱ فِيهَا وَلَا تَأۡثِيمࣱ‏23

Ayah 23

Translation of the meaningThey will pass around to each other a drink ˹of pure wine,˺ which leads to no idle talk or sinfulness

۞وَيَطُوفُ عَلَيۡهِمۡ غِلۡمَانࣱ لَّهُمۡ كَأَنَّهُمۡ لُؤۡلُؤࣱ مَّكۡنُونࣱ‏24

Ayah 24

Translation of the meaningAnd they will be waited on by their youthful servants like spotless pearls

وَأَقۡبَلَ بَعۡضُهُمۡ عَلَىٰ بَعۡضࣲ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ25

Ayah 25

Translation of the meaningThey will turn to one another inquisitively

قَالُوٓاْ إِنَّا كُنَّا قَبۡلُ فِيٓ أَهۡلِنَا مُشۡفِقِينَ26

Ayah 26

Translation of the meaningThey will say, “Before ˹this reward˺ we used to be in awe ˹of Allah˺ in the midst of our people

فَمَنَّ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيۡنَا وَوَقَىٰنَا عَذَابَ ٱلسَّمُومِ27

Ayah 27

Translation of the meaningSo Allah has graced us and protected us from the torment of ˹Hell’s˺ scorching heat

إِنَّا كُنَّا مِن قَبۡلُ نَدۡعُوهُۖ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلۡبَرُّ ٱلرَّحِيمُ28

Ayah 28

Translation of the meaningIndeed, we used to call upon Him ˹alone˺ before. He is truly the Most Kind, Most Merciful.”

فَذَكِّرۡ فَمَآ أَنتَ بِنِعۡمَتِ رَبِّكَ بِكَاهِنࣲ وَلَا مَجۡنُونٍ29

Ayah 29

Translation of the meaningSo ˹continue to˺ remind ˹all, O Prophet˺. For you, by the grace of your Lord, are not a fortune-teller or a madman

أَمۡ يَقُولُونَ شَاعِرࣱ نَّتَرَبَّصُ بِهِۦ رَيۡبَ ٱلۡمَنُونِ30

Ayah 30

Translation of the meaningOr do they say, “˹He is˺ a poet, for whom we ˹eagerly˺ await an ill-fate!”

قُلۡ تَرَبَّصُواْ فَإِنِّي مَعَكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡمُتَرَبِّصِينَ31

Ayah 31

Translation of the meaningSay, “Keep waiting! I too am waiting with you.”

أَمۡ تَأۡمُرُهُمۡ أَحۡلَٰمُهُم بِهَٰذَآۚ أَمۡ هُمۡ قَوۡمࣱ طَاغُونَ32

Ayah 32

Translation of the meaningOr do their ˹intelligent˺ minds prompt them to this ˹paradox˺? Or are they ˹just˺ a transgressing people

أَمۡ يَقُولُونَ تَقَوَّلَهُۥۚ بَل لَّا يُؤۡمِنُونَ33

Ayah 33

Translation of the meaningOr do they say, “He made this ˹Quran˺ up!”? In fact, they have no faith

فَلۡيَأۡتُواْ بِحَدِيثࣲ مِّثۡلِهِۦٓ إِن كَانُواْ صَٰدِقِينَ34

Ayah 34

Translation of the meaningLet them then produce something like it, if what they say is true

أَمۡ خُلِقُواْ مِنۡ غَيۡرِ شَيۡءٍ أَمۡ هُمُ ٱلۡخَٰلِقُونَ35

Ayah 35

Translation of the meaningOr were they created by nothing, or are they ˹their own˺ creators

أَمۡ خَلَقُواْ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَۚ بَل لَّا يُوقِنُونَ36

Ayah 36

Translation of the meaningOr did they create the heavens and the earth? In fact, they have no firm belief ˹in Allah˺

أَمۡ عِندَهُمۡ خَزَآئِنُ رَبِّكَ أَمۡ هُمُ ٱلۡمُصَۜيۡطِرُونَ37

Ayah 37

Translation of the meaningOr do they possess the treasuries of your Lord, or are they in control ˹of everything˺

أَمۡ لَهُمۡ سُلَّمࣱ يَسۡتَمِعُونَ فِيهِۖ فَلۡيَأۡتِ مُسۡتَمِعُهُم بِسُلۡطَٰنࣲ مُّبِينٍ38

Ayah 38

Translation of the meaningOr do they have a stairway, by which they eavesdrop ˹on the heavens˺? Then let those who do so bring a compelling proof

أَمۡ لَهُ ٱلۡبَنَٰتُ وَلَكُمُ ٱلۡبَنُونَ39

Ayah 39

Translation of the meaningOr does He have daughters ˹as you claim˺, while you ˹prefer to˺ have sons

أَمۡ تَسۡـَٔلُهُمۡ أَجۡرࣰ ا فَهُم مِّن مَّغۡرَمࣲ مُّثۡقَلُونَ40

Ayah 40

Translation of the meaningOr are you ˹O Prophet˺ asking them for a reward ˹for the message˺ so that they are overburdened by debt

أَمۡ عِندَهُمُ ٱلۡغَيۡبُ فَهُمۡ يَكۡتُبُونَ41

Ayah 41

Translation of the meaningOr do they have access to ˹the Record in˺ the unseen, so they copy it ˹for all to see˺

أَمۡ يُرِيدُونَ كَيۡدࣰ اۖ فَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ هُمُ ٱلۡمَكِيدُونَ42

Ayah 42

Translation of the meaningOr do they intend to scheme ˹against the Prophet˺? Then it is the disbelievers who will fall victim to ˹their˺ schemes

أَمۡ لَهُمۡ إِلَٰهٌ غَيۡرُ ٱللَّهِۚ سُبۡحَٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا يُشۡرِكُونَ43

Ayah 43

Translation of the meaningOr do they have a god other than Allah? Glorified is Allah far above what they associate ˹with Him˺

وَإِن يَرَوۡاْ كِسۡفࣰ ا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ سَاقِطࣰ ا يَقُولُواْ سَحَابࣱ مَّرۡكُومࣱ‏44

Ayah 44

Translation of the meaningIf they were to see a ˹deadly˺ piece of the sky fall down ˹upon them˺, still they would say, “˹This is just˺ a pile of clouds.”

فَذَرۡهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ يُلَٰقُواْ يَوۡمَهُمُ ٱلَّذِي فِيهِ يُصۡعَقُونَ45

Ayah 45

Translation of the meaningSo leave them until they face their Day in which they will be struck dead—

يَوۡمَ لَا يُغۡنِي عَنۡهُمۡ كَيۡدُهُمۡ شَيۡـࣰٔ ا وَلَا هُمۡ يُنصَرُونَ46

Ayah 46

Translation of the meaningthe Day their scheming will be of no benefit to them whatsoever, nor will they be helped

وَإِنَّ لِلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ عَذَابࣰ ا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَهُمۡ لَا يَعۡلَمُونَ47

Ayah 47

Translation of the meaningAlso, the wrongdoers will certainly have another torment before that ˹Day˺, but most of them do not know

وَٱصۡبِرۡ لِحُكۡمِ رَبِّكَ فَإِنَّكَ بِأَعۡيُنِنَاۖ وَسَبِّحۡ بِحَمۡدِ رَبِّكَ حِينَ تَقُومُ48

Ayah 48

Translation of the meaningSo be patient with your Lord’s decree, for you are truly under Our ˹watchful˺ Eyes. And glorify the praises of your Lord when you rise

وَمِنَ ٱلَّيۡلِ فَسَبِّحۡهُ وَإِدۡبَٰرَ ٱلنُّجُومِ49

Ayah 49

Translation of the meaningAnd glorify Him during part of the night and at the fading of the stars
