وَٱلۡفَجۡرِ1

Ayah 1

Translation of the meaningBy the dawn

وَلَيَالٍ عَشۡرࣲ‏2

Ayah 2

Translation of the meaningand the ten nights

وَٱلشَّفۡعِ وَٱلۡوَتۡرِ3

Ayah 3

Translation of the meaningand the even and the odd

وَٱلَّيۡلِ إِذَا يَسۡرِ4

Ayah 4

Translation of the meaningand the night when it passes

هَلۡ فِي ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمࣱ لِّذِي حِجۡرٍ5

Ayah 5

Translation of the meaningIs all this ˹not˺ a sufficient oath for those who have sense

أَلَمۡ تَرَ كَيۡفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ6

Ayah 6

Translation of the meaningDid you not see how your Lord dealt with ’Ȃd—

إِرَمَ ذَاتِ ٱلۡعِمَادِ7

Ayah 7

Translation of the meaning˹the people˺ of Iram—with ˹their˺ great stature

ٱلَّتِي لَمۡ يُخۡلَقۡ مِثۡلُهَا فِي ٱلۡبِلَٰدِ8

Ayah 8

Translation of the meaningunmatched in any other land

وَثَمُودَ ٱلَّذِينَ جَابُواْ ٱلصَّخۡرَ بِٱلۡوَادِ9

Ayah 9

Translation of the meaningand Thamûd who carved ˹their homes into˺ the rocks in the ˹Stone˺ Valley

وَفِرۡعَوۡنَ ذِي ٱلۡأَوۡتَادِ10

Ayah 10

Translation of the meaningand the Pharaoh of mighty structures

ٱلَّذِينَ طَغَوۡاْ فِي ٱلۡبِلَٰدِ11

Ayah 11

Translation of the meaningThey all transgressed throughout the land

فَأَكۡثَرُواْ فِيهَا ٱلۡفَسَادَ12

Ayah 12

Translation of the meaningspreading much corruption there

فَصَبَّ عَلَيۡهِمۡ رَبُّكَ سَوۡطَ عَذَابٍ13

Ayah 13

Translation of the meaningSo your Lord unleashed on them a scourge of punishment

إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِٱلۡمِرۡصَادِ14

Ayah 14

Translation of the meaning˹For˺ your Lord is truly vigilant

فَأَمَّا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ إِذَا مَا ٱبۡتَلَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَأَكۡرَمَهُۥ وَنَعَّمَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّيٓ أَكۡرَمَنِ15

Ayah 15

Translation of the meaningNow, whenever a human being is tested by their Lord through ˹His˺ generosity and blessings, they boast, “My Lord has ˹deservedly˺ honoured me!”

وَأَمَّآ إِذَا مَا ٱبۡتَلَىٰهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيۡهِ رِزۡقَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّيٓ أَهَٰنَنِ16

Ayah 16

Translation of the meaningBut when He tests them by limiting their provision, they protest, “My Lord has ˹undeservedly˺ humiliated me!”

كَلَّاۖ بَل لَّا تُكۡرِمُونَ ٱلۡيَتِيمَ17

Ayah 17

Translation of the meaningAbsolutely not! In fact, you are not ˹even˺ gracious to the orphan

وَلَا تَحَٰٓضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلۡمِسۡكِينِ18

Ayah 18

Translation of the meaningnor do you urge one another to feed the poor

وَتَأۡكُلُونَ ٱلتُّرَاثَ أَكۡلࣰ ا لَّمࣰّ ا19

Ayah 19

Translation of the meaningAnd you devour ˹others’˺ inheritance greedily

وَتُحِبُّونَ ٱلۡمَالَ حُبࣰّ ا جَمࣰّ ا20

Ayah 20

Translation of the meaningand love wealth fervently

كَلَّآۖ إِذَا دُكَّتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ دَكࣰّ ا دَكࣰّ ا21

Ayah 21

Translation of the meaningEnough! When the earth is entirely crushed over and over

وَجَآءَ رَبُّكَ وَٱلۡمَلَكُ صَفࣰّ ا صَفࣰّ ا22

Ayah 22

Translation of the meaningand your Lord comes ˹to judge˺ with angels, rank upon rank

وَجِاْيٓءَ يَوۡمَئِذِۭ بِجَهَنَّمَۚ يَوۡمَئِذࣲ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ ٱلذِّكۡرَىٰ23

Ayah 23

Translation of the meaningand Hell is brought forth on that Day—this is when every ˹disbelieving˺ person will remember ˹their own sins˺. But what is the use of remembering then

يَقُولُ يَٰلَيۡتَنِي قَدَّمۡتُ لِحَيَاتِي24

Ayah 24

Translation of the meaningThey will cry, “I wish I had sent forth ˹something good˺ for my ˹true˺ life.”

فَيَوۡمَئِذࣲ لَّا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُۥٓ أَحَدࣱ‏25

Ayah 25

Translation of the meaningOn that Day He will punish ˹them˺ severely, like no other

وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُۥٓ أَحَدࣱ‏26

Ayah 26

Translation of the meaningand bind ˹them˺ tightly, like no other

يَٰٓأَيَّتُهَا ٱلنَّفۡسُ ٱلۡمُطۡمَئِنَّةُ27

Ayah 27

Translation of the meaning˹Allah will say to the righteous,˺ “O tranquil soul

ٱرۡجِعِيٓ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةࣰ مَّرۡضِيَّةࣰ‏28

Ayah 28

Translation of the meaningReturn to your Lord, well pleased ˹with Him˺ and well pleasing ˹to Him˺

فَٱدۡخُلِي فِي عِبَٰدِي29

Ayah 29

Translation of the meaningSo join My servants

وَٱدۡخُلِي جَنَّتِي30

Ayah 30

Translation of the meaningand enter My Paradise.”
