Noah

إِنَّآ أَرۡسَلۡنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوۡمِهِۦٓ أَنۡ أَنذِرۡ قَوۡمَكَ مِن قَبۡلِ أَن يَأۡتِيَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمࣱ‏1

Ayah 1

Translation of the meaningIndeed, We sent Noah to his people ˹saying to him˺, “Warn your people before a painful punishment comes to them.”

قَالَ يَٰقَوۡمِ إِنِّي لَكُمۡ نَذِيرࣱ مُّبِينٌ2

Ayah 2

Translation of the meaningNoah proclaimed, “O my people! I am truly sent to you with a clear warning

أَنِ ٱعۡبُدُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَٱتَّقُوهُ وَأَطِيعُونِ3

Ayah 3

Translation of the meaningworship Allah ˹alone˺, fear Him, and obey me

يَغۡفِرۡ لَكُم مِّن ذُنُوبِكُمۡ وَيُؤَخِّرۡكُمۡ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلࣲ مُّسَمًّىۚ إِنَّ أَجَلَ ٱللَّهِ إِذَا جَآءَ لَا يُؤَخَّرُۚ لَوۡ كُنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ4

Ayah 4

Translation of the meaningHe will forgive your sins, and delay your end until the appointed time. Indeed, when the time set by Allah comes, it cannot be delayed, if only you knew!”

قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّي دَعَوۡتُ قَوۡمِي لَيۡلࣰ ا وَنَهَارࣰ ا5

Ayah 5

Translation of the meaningHe cried, “My Lord! I have surely called my people day and night

فَلَمۡ يَزِدۡهُمۡ دُعَآءِيٓ إِلَّا فِرَارࣰ ا6

Ayah 6

Translation of the meaningbut my calls only made them run farther away

وَإِنِّي كُلَّمَا دَعَوۡتُهُمۡ لِتَغۡفِرَ لَهُمۡ جَعَلُوٓاْ أَصَٰبِعَهُمۡ فِيٓ ءَاذَانِهِمۡ وَٱسۡتَغۡشَوۡاْ ثِيَابَهُمۡ وَأَصَرُّواْ وَٱسۡتَكۡبَرُواْ ٱسۡتِكۡبَارࣰ ا7

Ayah 7

Translation of the meaningAnd whenever I invite them to be forgiven by You, they press their fingers into their ears, cover themselves with their clothes, persist ˹in denial˺, and act very arrogantly

ثُمَّ إِنِّي دَعَوۡتُهُمۡ جِهَارࣰ ا8

Ayah 8

Translation of the meaningThen I certainly called them openly

ثُمَّ إِنِّيٓ أَعۡلَنتُ لَهُمۡ وَأَسۡرَرۡتُ لَهُمۡ إِسۡرَارࣰ ا9

Ayah 9

Translation of the meaningthen I surely preached to them publicly and privately

فَقُلۡتُ ٱسۡتَغۡفِرُواْ رَبَّكُمۡ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ غَفَّارࣰ ا10

Ayah 10

Translation of the meaningsaying, ‘Seek your Lord’s forgiveness, ˹for˺ He is truly Most Forgiving

يُرۡسِلِ ٱلسَّمَآءَ عَلَيۡكُم مِّدۡرَارࣰ ا11

Ayah 11

Translation of the meaningHe will shower you with abundant rain

وَيُمۡدِدۡكُم بِأَمۡوَٰلࣲ وَبَنِينَ وَيَجۡعَل لَّكُمۡ جَنَّٰتࣲ وَيَجۡعَل لَّكُمۡ أَنۡهَٰرࣰ ا12

Ayah 12

Translation of the meaningsupply you with wealth and children, and give you gardens as well as rivers

مَّا لَكُمۡ لَا تَرۡجُونَ لِلَّهِ وَقَارࣰ ا13

Ayah 13

Translation of the meaningWhat is the matter with you that you are not in awe of the Majesty of Allah

وَقَدۡ خَلَقَكُمۡ أَطۡوَارًا14

Ayah 14

Translation of the meaningwhen He truly created you in stages ˹of development˺

أَلَمۡ تَرَوۡاْ كَيۡفَ خَلَقَ ٱللَّهُ سَبۡعَ سَمَٰوَٰتࣲ طِبَاقࣰ ا15

Ayah 15

Translation of the meaningDo you not see how Allah created seven heavens, one above the other

وَجَعَلَ ٱلۡقَمَرَ فِيهِنَّ نُورࣰ ا وَجَعَلَ ٱلشَّمۡسَ سِرَاجࣰ ا16

Ayah 16

Translation of the meaningplacing the moon within them as a ˹reflected˺ light, and the sun as a ˹radiant˺ lamp

وَٱللَّهُ أَنۢبَتَكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ نَبَاتࣰ ا17

Ayah 17

Translation of the meaningAllah ˹alone˺ caused you to grow from the earth like a plant

ثُمَّ يُعِيدُكُمۡ فِيهَا وَيُخۡرِجُكُمۡ إِخۡرَاجࣰ ا18

Ayah 18

Translation of the meaningThen He will return you to it, and then simply bring you forth ˹again˺

وَٱللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ بِسَاطࣰ ا19

Ayah 19

Translation of the meaningAnd Allah ˹alone˺ spread out the earth for you

لِّتَسۡلُكُواْ مِنۡهَا سُبُلࣰ ا فِجَاجࣰ ا20

Ayah 20

Translation of the meaningto walk along its spacious pathways.’”

قَالَ نُوحࣱ رَّبِّ إِنَّهُمۡ عَصَوۡنِي وَٱتَّبَعُواْ مَن لَّمۡ يَزِدۡهُ مَالُهُۥ وَوَلَدُهُۥٓ إِلَّا خَسَارࣰ ا21

Ayah 21

Translation of the meaning˹Eventually,˺ Noah cried, “My Lord! They have certainly persisted in disobeying me, and followed ˹instead˺ those ˹elite˺ whose ˹abundant˺ wealth and children only increase them in loss

وَمَكَرُواْ مَكۡرࣰ ا كُبَّارࣰ ا22

Ayah 22

Translation of the meaningand who have devised a tremendous plot

وَقَالُواْ لَا تَذَرُنَّ ءَالِهَتَكُمۡ وَلَا تَذَرُنَّ وَدࣰّ ا وَلَا سُوَاعࣰ ا وَلَا يَغُوثَ وَيَعُوقَ وَنَسۡرࣰ ا23

Ayah 23

Translation of the meaningurging ˹their followers˺, ‘Do not abandon your idols—especially Wadd, Suwâ’, Yaghûth, Ya’ûq, and Nasr.’

وَقَدۡ أَضَلُّواْ كَثِيرࣰ اۖ وَلَا تَزِدِ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ إِلَّا ضَلَٰلࣰ ا24

Ayah 24

Translation of the meaningThose ˹elite˺ have already led many astray. So ˹O Lord˺, only allow the wrongdoers to stray farther away.”

مِّمَّا خَطِيٓـَٰٔتِهِمۡ أُغۡرِقُواْ فَأُدۡخِلُواْ نَارࣰ ا فَلَمۡ يَجِدُواْ لَهُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ أَنصَارࣰ ا25

Ayah 25

Translation of the meaningSo because of their sins, they were drowned, then admitted into the Fire. And they found none to help them against Allah

وَقَالَ نُوحࣱ رَّبِّ لَا تَذَرۡ عَلَى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ مِنَ ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ دَيَّارًا26

Ayah 26

Translation of the meaningNoah had prayed, “My Lord! Do not leave a single disbeliever on earth

إِنَّكَ إِن تَذَرۡهُمۡ يُضِلُّواْ عِبَادَكَ وَلَا يَلِدُوٓاْ إِلَّا فَاجِرࣰ ا كَفَّارࣰ ا27

Ayah 27

Translation of the meaningFor if You spare ˹any of˺ them, they will certainly mislead Your servants, and give birth only to ˹wicked˺ sinners, staunch disbelievers

رَّبِّ ٱغۡفِرۡ لِي وَلِوَٰلِدَيَّ وَلِمَن دَخَلَ بَيۡتِيَ مُؤۡمِنࣰ ا وَلِلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ وَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنَٰتِۖ وَلَا تَزِدِ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ إِلَّا تَبَارَۢا28

Ayah 28

Translation of the meaningMy Lord! Forgive me, my parents, and whoever enters my house in faith, and ˹all˺ believing men and women. And increase the wrongdoers only in destruction.”
