ٱلۡحَآقَّةُ1

Ayah 1

Translation of the meaningThe Inevitable Hour

مَا ٱلۡحَآقَّةُ2

Ayah 2

Translation of the meaningWhat is the Inevitable Hour

وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلۡحَآقَّةُ3

Ayah 3

Translation of the meaningAnd what will make you realize what the Inevitable Hour is

كَذَّبَتۡ ثَمُودُ وَعَادُۢ بِٱلۡقَارِعَةِ4

Ayah 4

Translation of the meaning˹Both˺ Thamûd and ’Ȃd denied the Striking Disaster

فَأَمَّا ثَمُودُ فَأُهۡلِكُواْ بِٱلطَّاغِيَةِ5

Ayah 5

Translation of the meaningAs for Thamûd, they were destroyed by an overwhelming blast

وَأَمَّا عَادࣱ فَأُهۡلِكُواْ بِرِيحࣲ صَرۡصَرٍ عَاتِيَةࣲ‏6

Ayah 6

Translation of the meaningAnd as for ’Ȃd, they were destroyed by a furious, bitter wind

سَخَّرَهَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ سَبۡعَ لَيَالࣲ وَثَمَٰنِيَةَ أَيَّامٍ حُسُومࣰ اۖ فَتَرَى ٱلۡقَوۡمَ فِيهَا صَرۡعَىٰ كَأَنَّهُمۡ أَعۡجَازُ نَخۡلٍ خَاوِيَةࣲ‏7

Ayah 7

Translation of the meaningwhich Allah unleashed on them non-stop for seven nights and eight days, so that you would have seen its people lying dead like trunks of uprooted palm trees

فَهَلۡ تَرَىٰ لَهُم مِّنۢ بَاقِيَةࣲ‏8

Ayah 8

Translation of the meaningDo you see any of them left alive

وَجَآءَ فِرۡعَوۡنُ وَمَن قَبۡلَهُۥ وَٱلۡمُؤۡتَفِكَٰتُ بِٱلۡخَاطِئَةِ9

Ayah 9

Translation of the meaningAlso, Pharaoh and those before him, and ˹the people of˺ the overturned cities ˹of Lot˺ indulged in sin

فَعَصَوۡاْ رَسُولَ رَبِّهِمۡ فَأَخَذَهُمۡ أَخۡذَةࣰ رَّابِيَةً10

Ayah 10

Translation of the meaningeach disobeying their Lord’s messenger, so He seized them with a crushing grip

إِنَّا لَمَّا طَغَا ٱلۡمَآءُ حَمَلۡنَٰكُمۡ فِي ٱلۡجَارِيَةِ11

Ayah 11

Translation of the meaningIndeed, when the floodwater had overflowed, We carried you in the floating Ark ˹with Noah˺

لِنَجۡعَلَهَا لَكُمۡ تَذۡكِرَةࣰ وَتَعِيَهَآ أُذُنࣱ وَٰعِيَةࣱ‏12

Ayah 12

Translation of the meaningso that We may make this a reminder to you, and that attentive ears may grasp it

فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِي ٱلصُّورِ نَفۡخَةࣱ وَٰحِدَةࣱ‏13

Ayah 13

Translation of the meaningAt last, when the Trumpet will be blown with one blast

وَحُمِلَتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ وَٱلۡجِبَالُ فَدُكَّتَا دَكَّةࣰ وَٰحِدَةࣰ‏14

Ayah 14

Translation of the meaningand the earth and mountains will be lifted up and crushed with one blow

فَيَوۡمَئِذࣲ وَقَعَتِ ٱلۡوَاقِعَةُ15

Ayah 15

Translation of the meaningon that Day the Inevitable Event will have come to pass

وَٱنشَقَّتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَهِيَ يَوۡمَئِذࣲ وَاهِيَةࣱ‏16

Ayah 16

Translation of the meaningThe sky will then be so torn that it will be frail

وَٱلۡمَلَكُ عَلَىٰٓ أَرۡجَآئِهَاۚ وَيَحۡمِلُ عَرۡشَ رَبِّكَ فَوۡقَهُمۡ يَوۡمَئِذࣲ ثَمَٰنِيَةࣱ‏17

Ayah 17

Translation of the meaningwith the angels on its sides. On that Day eight ˹mighty angels˺ will bear the Throne of your Lord above them

يَوۡمَئِذࣲ تُعۡرَضُونَ لَا تَخۡفَىٰ مِنكُمۡ خَافِيَةࣱ‏18

Ayah 18

Translation of the meaningYou will then be presented ˹before Him for judgment˺, and none of your secrets will stay hidden

فَأَمَّا مَنۡ أُوتِيَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ فَيَقُولُ هَآؤُمُ ٱقۡرَءُواْ كِتَٰبِيَهۡ19

Ayah 19

Translation of the meaningAs for those given their records in their right hand, they will cry ˹happily˺, “Here ˹everyone˺! Read my record

إِنِّي ظَنَنتُ أَنِّي مُلَٰقٍ حِسَابِيَهۡ20

Ayah 20

Translation of the meaningI surely knew I would face my reckoning.”

فَهُوَ فِي عِيشَةࣲ رَّاضِيَةࣲ‏21

Ayah 21

Translation of the meaningThey will be in a life of bliss

فِي جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةࣲ‏22

Ayah 22

Translation of the meaningin an elevated Garden

قُطُوفُهَا دَانِيَةࣱ‏23

Ayah 23

Translation of the meaningwhose fruit will hang within reach

كُلُواْ وَٱشۡرَبُواْ هَنِيٓـَٔۢا بِمَآ أَسۡلَفۡتُمۡ فِي ٱلۡأَيَّامِ ٱلۡخَالِيَةِ24

Ayah 24

Translation of the meaning˹They will be told,˺ “Eat and drink joyfully for what you did in the days gone by.”

وَأَمَّا مَنۡ أُوتِيَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ بِشِمَالِهِۦ فَيَقُولُ يَٰلَيۡتَنِي لَمۡ أُوتَ كِتَٰبِيَهۡ25

Ayah 25

Translation of the meaningAnd as for those given their record in their left hand, they will cry ˹bitterly˺, “I wish I had not been given my record

وَلَمۡ أَدۡرِ مَا حِسَابِيَهۡ26

Ayah 26

Translation of the meaningnor known anything of my reckoning

يَٰلَيۡتَهَا كَانَتِ ٱلۡقَاضِيَةَ27

Ayah 27

Translation of the meaningI wish death was the end

مَآ أَغۡنَىٰ عَنِّي مَالِيَهۡۜ28

Ayah 28

Translation of the meaningMy wealth has not benefited me

هَلَكَ عَنِّي سُلۡطَٰنِيَهۡ29

Ayah 29

Translation of the meaningMy authority has been stripped from me.”

خُذُوهُ فَغُلُّوهُ30

Ayah 30

Translation of the meaning˹It will be said,˺ “Seize and shackle them

ثُمَّ ٱلۡجَحِيمَ صَلُّوهُ31

Ayah 31

Translation of the meaningthen burn them in Hell

ثُمَّ فِي سِلۡسِلَةࣲ ذَرۡعُهَا سَبۡعُونَ ذِرَاعࣰ ا فَٱسۡلُكُوهُ32

Ayah 32

Translation of the meaningthen tie them up with chains seventy arms long

إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لَا يُؤۡمِنُ بِٱللَّهِ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ33

Ayah 33

Translation of the meaningFor they never had faith in Allah, the Greatest

وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلۡمِسۡكِينِ34

Ayah 34

Translation of the meaningnor encouraged the feeding of the poor

فَلَيۡسَ لَهُ ٱلۡيَوۡمَ هَٰهُنَا حَمِيمࣱ‏35

Ayah 35

Translation of the meaningSo this Day they will have no close friend here

وَلَا طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِنۡ غِسۡلِينࣲ‏36

Ayah 36

Translation of the meaningnor any food except ˹oozing˺ pus

لَّا يَأۡكُلُهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلۡخَٰطِـُٔونَ37

Ayah 37

Translation of the meaningwhich none will eat except the evildoers.”

فَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِمَا تُبۡصِرُونَ38

Ayah 38

Translation of the meaningNow, I do swear by whatever you see

وَمَا لَا تُبۡصِرُونَ39

Ayah 39

Translation of the meaningand whatever you cannot see

إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوۡلُ رَسُولࣲ كَرِيمࣲ‏40

Ayah 40

Translation of the meaningIndeed, this ˹Quran˺ is the recitation of a noble Messenger

وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوۡلِ شَاعِرࣲۚ قَلِيلࣰ ا مَّا تُؤۡمِنُونَ41

Ayah 41

Translation of the meaningIt is not the prose of a poet ˹as you claim˺, ˹yet˺ you hardly have any faith

وَلَا بِقَوۡلِ كَاهِنࣲۚ قَلِيلࣰ ا مَّا تَذَكَّرُونَ42

Ayah 42

Translation of the meaningNor is it the mumbling of a fortune-teller, ˹yet˺ you are hardly mindful

تَنزِيلࣱ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ43

Ayah 43

Translation of the meaning˹It is˺ a revelation from the Lord of all worlds

وَلَوۡ تَقَوَّلَ عَلَيۡنَا بَعۡضَ ٱلۡأَقَاوِيلِ44

Ayah 44

Translation of the meaningHad the Messenger made up something in Our Name

لَأَخَذۡنَا مِنۡهُ بِٱلۡيَمِينِ45

Ayah 45

Translation of the meaningWe would have certainly seized him by his right hand

ثُمَّ لَقَطَعۡنَا مِنۡهُ ٱلۡوَتِينَ46

Ayah 46

Translation of the meaningthen severed his aorta

فَمَا مِنكُم مِّنۡ أَحَدٍ عَنۡهُ حَٰجِزِينَ47

Ayah 47

Translation of the meaningand none of you could have shielded him ˹from Us˺

وَإِنَّهُۥ لَتَذۡكِرَةࣱ لِّلۡمُتَّقِينَ48

Ayah 48

Translation of the meaningIndeed, this ˹Quran˺ is a reminder to those mindful ˹of Allah˺

وَإِنَّا لَنَعۡلَمُ أَنَّ مِنكُم مُّكَذِّبِينَ49

Ayah 49

Translation of the meaningAnd We certainly know that some of you will persist in denial

وَإِنَّهُۥ لَحَسۡرَةٌ عَلَى ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ50

Ayah 50

Translation of the meaningand it will surely be a source of regret for the disbelievers

وَإِنَّهُۥ لَحَقُّ ٱلۡيَقِينِ51

Ayah 51

Translation of the meaningAnd indeed, this ˹Quran˺ is the absolute truth

فَسَبِّحۡ بِٱسۡمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ52

Ayah 52

Translation of the meaningSo glorify the Name of your Lord, the Greatest
