The letter Qaaf

قٓۚ وَٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ ٱلۡمَجِيدِ1

Ayah 1

Translation of the meaningQãf. By the glorious Quran

بَلۡ عَجِبُوٓاْ أَن جَآءَهُم مُّنذِرࣱ مِّنۡهُمۡ فَقَالَ ٱلۡكَٰفِرُونَ هَٰذَا شَيۡءٌ عَجِيبٌ2

Ayah 2

Translation of the meaning˹All will be resurrected,˺ yet the deniers are astonished that a warner has come to them from among themselves ˹warning of resurrection˺. So the disbelievers say, “This is an astonishing thing

أَءِذَا مِتۡنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابࣰ اۖ ذَٰلِكَ رَجۡعُۢ بَعِيدࣱ‏3

Ayah 3

Translation of the meaning˹Will we be returned to life,˺ when we are dead and reduced to dust? Such a return is impossible.”

قَدۡ عَلِمۡنَا مَا تَنقُصُ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ مِنۡهُمۡۖ وَعِندَنَا كِتَٰبٌ حَفِيظُۢ4

Ayah 4

Translation of the meaningWe certainly know what the earth consumes of them ˹after their death˺, and with us is a well-preserved Record

بَلۡ كَذَّبُواْ بِٱلۡحَقِّ لَمَّا جَآءَهُمۡ فَهُمۡ فِيٓ أَمۡرࣲ مَّرِيجٍ5

Ayah 5

Translation of the meaningIn fact, they reject the truth when it has come to them, so they are in a confused state

أَفَلَمۡ يَنظُرُوٓاْ إِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ فَوۡقَهُمۡ كَيۡفَ بَنَيۡنَٰهَا وَزَيَّنَّٰهَا وَمَا لَهَا مِن فُرُوجࣲ‏6

Ayah 6

Translation of the meaningHave they not then looked at the sky above them: how We built it and adorned it ˹with stars˺, leaving it flawless

وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ مَدَدۡنَٰهَا وَأَلۡقَيۡنَا فِيهَا رَوَٰسِيَ وَأَنۢبَتۡنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ زَوۡجِۭ بَهِيجࣲ‏7

Ayah 7

Translation of the meaningAs for the earth, We spread it out and placed upon it firm mountains, and produced in it every type of pleasant plant—

تَبۡصِرَةࣰ وَذِكۡرَىٰ لِكُلِّ عَبۡدࣲ مُّنِيبࣲ‏8

Ayah 8

Translation of the meaning˹all as˺ an insight and a reminder to every servant who turns ˹to Allah˺

وَنَزَّلۡنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءࣰ مُّبَٰرَكࣰ ا فَأَنۢبَتۡنَا بِهِۦ جَنَّٰتࣲ وَحَبَّ ٱلۡحَصِيدِ9

Ayah 9

Translation of the meaningAnd We send down blessed rain from the sky, bringing forth gardens and grains for harvest

وَٱلنَّخۡلَ بَاسِقَٰتࣲ لَّهَا طَلۡعࣱ نَّضِيدࣱ‏10

Ayah 10

Translation of the meaningand towering palm trees ˹loaded˺ with clustered fruit

رِّزۡقࣰ ا لِّلۡعِبَادِۖ وَأَحۡيَيۡنَا بِهِۦ بَلۡدَةࣰ مَّيۡتࣰ اۚ كَذَٰلِكَ ٱلۡخُرُوجُ11

Ayah 11

Translation of the meaning˹as˺ a provision for ˹Our˺ servants. And with this ˹rain˺ We revive a lifeless land. Similar is the emergence ˹from the graves˺

كَذَّبَتۡ قَبۡلَهُمۡ قَوۡمُ نُوحࣲ وَأَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلرَّسِّ وَثَمُودُ12

Ayah 12

Translation of the meaningBefore them, the people of Noah denied ˹the truth,˺ as did the people of the Water-pit, Thamûd

وَعَادࣱ وَفِرۡعَوۡنُ وَإِخۡوَٰنُ لُوطࣲ‏13

Ayah 13

Translation of the meaning’Ȃd, Pharaoh, the kinfolk of Lot

وَأَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡأَيۡكَةِ وَقَوۡمُ تُبَّعࣲۚ كُلࣱّ كَذَّبَ ٱلرُّسُلَ فَحَقَّ وَعِيدِ14

Ayah 14

Translation of the meaningthe residents of the Forest, and the people of Tubba’. Each rejected ˹their˺ messenger, so My warning was fulfilled

أَفَعَيِينَا بِٱلۡخَلۡقِ ٱلۡأَوَّلِۚ بَلۡ هُمۡ فِي لَبۡسࣲ مِّنۡ خَلۡقࣲ جَدِيدࣲ‏15

Ayah 15

Translation of the meaningWere We incapable of creating ˹them˺ the first time? In fact, they are in doubt about ˹their˺ re-creation

وَلَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ وَنَعۡلَمُ مَا تُوَسۡوِسُ بِهِۦ نَفۡسُهُۥۖ وَنَحۡنُ أَقۡرَبُ إِلَيۡهِ مِنۡ حَبۡلِ ٱلۡوَرِيدِ16

Ayah 16

Translation of the meaningIndeed, ˹it is˺ We ˹Who˺ created humankind and ˹fully˺ know what their souls whisper to them, and We are closer to them than ˹their˺ jugular vein

إِذۡ يَتَلَقَّى ٱلۡمُتَلَقِّيَانِ عَنِ ٱلۡيَمِينِ وَعَنِ ٱلشِّمَالِ قَعِيدࣱ‏17

Ayah 17

Translation of the meaningAs the two recording-angels—˹one˺ sitting to the right, and ˹the other to˺ the left—note ˹everything˺

مَّا يَلۡفِظُ مِن قَوۡلٍ إِلَّا لَدَيۡهِ رَقِيبٌ عَتِيدࣱ‏18

Ayah 18

Translation of the meaningnot a word does a person utter without having a ˹vigilant˺ observer ready ˹to write it down˺

وَجَآءَتۡ سَكۡرَةُ ٱلۡمَوۡتِ بِٱلۡحَقِّۖ ذَٰلِكَ مَا كُنتَ مِنۡهُ تَحِيدُ19

Ayah 19

Translation of the meaning˹Ultimately,˺ with the throes of death will come the truth. This is what you were trying to escape

وَنُفِخَ فِي ٱلصُّورِۚ ذَٰلِكَ يَوۡمُ ٱلۡوَعِيدِ20

Ayah 20

Translation of the meaningAnd the Trumpet will be blown. This is the Day ˹you were˺ warned of

وَجَآءَتۡ كُلُّ نَفۡسࣲ مَّعَهَا سَآئِقࣱ وَشَهِيدࣱ‏21

Ayah 21

Translation of the meaningEach soul will come forth with an angel to drive it and another to testify

لَّقَدۡ كُنتَ فِي غَفۡلَةࣲ مِّنۡ هَٰذَا فَكَشَفۡنَا عَنكَ غِطَآءَكَ فَبَصَرُكَ ٱلۡيَوۡمَ حَدِيدࣱ‏22

Ayah 22

Translation of the meaning˹It will be said to the denier,˺ “You were totally heedless of this. Now We have lifted this veil of yours, so Today your sight is sharp!”

وَقَالَ قَرِينُهُۥ هَٰذَا مَا لَدَيَّ عَتِيدٌ23

Ayah 23

Translation of the meaningAnd one’s accompanying-angel will say, “Here is the record ready with me.”

أَلۡقِيَا فِي جَهَنَّمَ كُلَّ كَفَّارٍ عَنِيدࣲ‏24

Ayah 24

Translation of the meaning˹It will be said to both angels,˺ “Throw into Hell every stubborn disbeliever

مَّنَّاعࣲ لِّلۡخَيۡرِ مُعۡتَدࣲ مُّرِيبٍ25

Ayah 25

Translation of the meaningwithholder of good, transgressor, and doubter

ٱلَّذِي جَعَلَ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَٰهًا ءَاخَرَ فَأَلۡقِيَاهُ فِي ٱلۡعَذَابِ ٱلشَّدِيدِ26

Ayah 26

Translation of the meaningwho set up another god with Allah. So cast them into the severe punishment.”

۞قَالَ قَرِينُهُۥ رَبَّنَا مَآ أَطۡغَيۡتُهُۥ وَلَٰكِن كَانَ فِي ضَلَٰلِۭ بَعِيدࣲ‏27

Ayah 27

Translation of the meaningOne’s ˹devilish˺ associate will say, “Our Lord! I did not make them transgress. Rather, they were far astray ˹on their own˺.”

قَالَ لَا تَخۡتَصِمُواْ لَدَيَّ وَقَدۡ قَدَّمۡتُ إِلَيۡكُم بِٱلۡوَعِيدِ28

Ayah 28

Translation of the meaningAllah will respond, “Do not dispute in My presence, since I had already given you a warning

مَا يُبَدَّلُ ٱلۡقَوۡلُ لَدَيَّ وَمَآ أَنَا۠ بِظَلَّٰمࣲ لِّلۡعَبِيدِ29

Ayah 29

Translation of the meaningMy Word cannot be changed, nor am I unjust to ˹My˺ creation.”

يَوۡمَ نَقُولُ لِجَهَنَّمَ هَلِ ٱمۡتَلَأۡتِ وَتَقُولُ هَلۡ مِن مَّزِيدࣲ‏30

Ayah 30

Translation of the meaning˹Beware of˺ the Day We will ask Hell, “Are you full ˹yet˺?” And it will respond, “Are there any more?”

وَأُزۡلِفَتِ ٱلۡجَنَّةُ لِلۡمُتَّقِينَ غَيۡرَ بَعِيدٍ31

Ayah 31

Translation of the meaningAnd Paradise will be brought near to the righteous, not far off

هَٰذَا مَا تُوعَدُونَ لِكُلِّ أَوَّابٍ حَفِيظࣲ‏32

Ayah 32

Translation of the meaning˹And it will be said to them,˺ “This is what you were promised, for whoever ˹constantly˺ turned ˹to Allah˺ and kept up ˹His commandments˺—

مَّنۡ خَشِيَ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنَ بِٱلۡغَيۡبِ وَجَآءَ بِقَلۡبࣲ مُّنِيبٍ33

Ayah 33

Translation of the meaningwho were in awe of the Most Compassionate without seeing ˹Him˺, and have come with a heart turning ˹only to Him˺

ٱدۡخُلُوهَا بِسَلَٰمࣲۖ ذَٰلِكَ يَوۡمُ ٱلۡخُلُودِ34

Ayah 34

Translation of the meaningEnter it in peace. This is the Day of eternal life!”

لَهُم مَّا يَشَآءُونَ فِيهَا وَلَدَيۡنَا مَزِيدࣱ‏35

Ayah 35

Translation of the meaningThere they will have whatever they desire, and with Us is ˹even˺ more

وَكَمۡ أَهۡلَكۡنَا قَبۡلَهُم مِّن قَرۡنٍ هُمۡ أَشَدُّ مِنۡهُم بَطۡشࣰ ا فَنَقَّبُواْ فِي ٱلۡبِلَٰدِ هَلۡ مِن مَّحِيصٍ36

Ayah 36

Translation of the meaning˹Imagine˺ how many peoples We destroyed before them, who were far mightier than them. Then ˹when the torment came,˺ they ˹desperately˺ sought refuge in the land. ˹But˺ was there any escape

إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَذِكۡرَىٰ لِمَن كَانَ لَهُۥ قَلۡبٌ أَوۡ أَلۡقَى ٱلسَّمۡعَ وَهُوَ شَهِيدࣱ‏37

Ayah 37

Translation of the meaningSurely in this is a reminder for whoever has a ˹mindful˺ heart and lends an attentive ear

وَلَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَا فِي سِتَّةِ أَيَّامࣲ وَمَا مَسَّنَا مِن لُّغُوبࣲ‏38

Ayah 38

Translation of the meaningIndeed, We created the heavens and the earth and everything in between in six Days, and We were not ˹even˺ touched with fatigue

فَٱصۡبِرۡ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ وَسَبِّحۡ بِحَمۡدِ رَبِّكَ قَبۡلَ طُلُوعِ ٱلشَّمۡسِ وَقَبۡلَ ٱلۡغُرُوبِ39

Ayah 39

Translation of the meaningSo be patient ˹O Prophet˺ with what they say. And glorify the praises of your Lord before sunrise and before sunset

وَمِنَ ٱلَّيۡلِ فَسَبِّحۡهُ وَأَدۡبَٰرَ ٱلسُّجُودِ40

Ayah 40

Translation of the meaningAnd glorify Him during part of the night and after the prayers

وَٱسۡتَمِعۡ يَوۡمَ يُنَادِ ٱلۡمُنَادِ مِن مَّكَانࣲ قَرِيبࣲ‏41

Ayah 41

Translation of the meaningAnd listen! On the Day the caller will call out from a near place

يَوۡمَ يَسۡمَعُونَ ٱلصَّيۡحَةَ بِٱلۡحَقِّۚ ذَٰلِكَ يَوۡمُ ٱلۡخُرُوجِ42

Ayah 42

Translation of the meaningthe Day all will hear the ˹mighty˺ Blast in ˹all˺ truth, that will be the Day of emergence ˹from the graves˺

إِنَّا نَحۡنُ نُحۡيِۦ وَنُمِيتُ وَإِلَيۡنَا ٱلۡمَصِيرُ43

Ayah 43

Translation of the meaningIt is certainly We Who give life and cause death. And to Us is the final return

يَوۡمَ تَشَقَّقُ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ عَنۡهُمۡ سِرَاعࣰ اۚ ذَٰلِكَ حَشۡرٌ عَلَيۡنَا يَسِيرࣱ‏44

Ayah 44

Translation of the meaning˹Beware of˺ the Day the earth will split open, letting them rush forth. That will be an easy gathering for Us

نَّحۡنُ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَا يَقُولُونَۖ وَمَآ أَنتَ عَلَيۡهِم بِجَبَّارࣲۖ فَذَكِّرۡ بِٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ مَن يَخَافُ وَعِيدِ45

Ayah 45

Translation of the meaningWe know best what they say. And you ˹O Prophet˺ are not ˹there˺ to compel them ˹to believe˺. So remind with the Quran ˹only˺ those who fear My warning
