حمٓ1

Ayah 1

Translation of the meaningḤâ-Mĩm

وَٱلۡكِتَٰبِ ٱلۡمُبِينِ2

Ayah 2

Translation of the meaningBy the clear Book

إِنَّآ أَنزَلۡنَٰهُ فِي لَيۡلَةࣲ مُّبَٰرَكَةٍۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُنذِرِينَ3

Ayah 3

Translation of the meaningIndeed, We sent it down on a blessed night, for We always warn ˹against evil˺

فِيهَا يُفۡرَقُ كُلُّ أَمۡرٍ حَكِيمٍ4

Ayah 4

Translation of the meaningOn that night every matter of wisdom is ordained

أَمۡرࣰ ا مِّنۡ عِندِنَآۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُرۡسِلِينَ5

Ayah 5

Translation of the meaningby a command from Us, for We have always sent ˹messengers˺

رَحۡمَةࣰ مِّن رَّبِّكَۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلۡعَلِيمُ6

Ayah 6

Translation of the meaningas a mercy from your Lord. He ˹alone˺ is truly the All-Hearing, All-Knowing—

رَبِّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَآۖ إِن كُنتُم مُّوقِنِينَ7

Ayah 7

Translation of the meaningthe Lord of the heavens and the earth and everything in between, if only you had sure faith

لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ يُحۡيِۦ وَيُمِيتُۖ رَبُّكُمۡ وَرَبُّ ءَابَآئِكُمُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ8

Ayah 8

Translation of the meaningThere is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Him. He ˹alone˺ gives life and causes death. ˹He is˺ your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers

بَلۡ هُمۡ فِي شَكࣲّ يَلۡعَبُونَ9

Ayah 9

Translation of the meaningIn fact, they are in doubt, amusing themselves

فَٱرۡتَقِبۡ يَوۡمَ تَأۡتِي ٱلسَّمَآءُ بِدُخَانࣲ مُّبِينࣲ‏10

Ayah 10

Translation of the meaningWait then ˹O Prophet˺ for the day ˹when˺ the sky will be veiled in haze, clearly visible

يَغۡشَى ٱلنَّاسَۖ هَٰذَا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمࣱ‏11

Ayah 11

Translation of the meaningoverwhelming the people. ˹They will cry,˺ “This is a painful torment

رَّبَّنَا ٱكۡشِفۡ عَنَّا ٱلۡعَذَابَ إِنَّا مُؤۡمِنُونَ12

Ayah 12

Translation of the meaningOur Lord! Remove ˹this˺ torment from us, ˹and˺ we will certainly believe.”

أَنَّىٰ لَهُمُ ٱلذِّكۡرَىٰ وَقَدۡ جَآءَهُمۡ رَسُولࣱ مُّبِينࣱ‏13

Ayah 13

Translation of the meaningHow can they be reminded when a messenger has already come to them, making things clear

ثُمَّ تَوَلَّوۡاْ عَنۡهُ وَقَالُواْ مُعَلَّمࣱ مَّجۡنُونٌ14

Ayah 14

Translation of the meaningthen they turned away from him, saying, “A madman, taught by others!”

إِنَّا كَاشِفُواْ ٱلۡعَذَابِ قَلِيلًاۚ إِنَّكُمۡ عَآئِدُونَ15

Ayah 15

Translation of the meaningIndeed, We will remove ˹that˺ torment for a while, and you ˹Meccans˺ will return ˹to disbelief˺

يَوۡمَ نَبۡطِشُ ٱلۡبَطۡشَةَ ٱلۡكُبۡرَىٰٓ إِنَّا مُنتَقِمُونَ16

Ayah 16

Translation of the meaning˹Then˺ on the Day We will deal ˹you˺ the fiercest blow, We will surely inflict punishment

۞وَلَقَدۡ فَتَنَّا قَبۡلَهُمۡ قَوۡمَ فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَجَآءَهُمۡ رَسُولࣱ كَرِيمٌ17

Ayah 17

Translation of the meaningIndeed, before them We tested Pharaoh’s people: a noble messenger came to them

أَنۡ أَدُّوٓاْ إِلَيَّ عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِۖ إِنِّي لَكُمۡ رَسُولٌ أَمِينࣱ‏18

Ayah 18

Translation of the meaning˹proclaiming,˺ “Hand over the servants of Allah to me. I am truly a trustworthy messenger to you

وَأَن لَّا تَعۡلُواْ عَلَى ٱللَّهِۖ إِنِّيٓ ءَاتِيكُم بِسُلۡطَٰنࣲ مُّبِينࣲ‏19

Ayah 19

Translation of the meaningAnd do not be arrogant with Allah. I have certainly come to you with a compelling proof

وَإِنِّي عُذۡتُ بِرَبِّي وَرَبِّكُمۡ أَن تَرۡجُمُونِ20

Ayah 20

Translation of the meaningAnd indeed, I seek refuge with my Lord and your Lord so you do not stone me ˹to death˺

وَإِن لَّمۡ تُؤۡمِنُواْ لِي فَٱعۡتَزِلُونِ21

Ayah 21

Translation of the meaning˹But˺ if you do not believe me, then let me be.”

فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنَّ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ قَوۡمࣱ مُّجۡرِمُونَ22

Ayah 22

Translation of the meaningUltimately, he cried out to his Lord, “These are a wicked people!”

فَأَسۡرِ بِعِبَادِي لَيۡلًا إِنَّكُم مُّتَّبَعُونَ23

Ayah 23

Translation of the meaning˹Allah responded,˺ “Leave with My servants at night, for you will surely be pursued

وَٱتۡرُكِ ٱلۡبَحۡرَ رَهۡوًاۖ إِنَّهُمۡ جُندࣱ مُّغۡرَقُونَ24

Ayah 24

Translation of the meaningAnd leave the sea parted, for they are certainly an army bound to drown.”

كَمۡ تَرَكُواْ مِن جَنَّٰتࣲ وَعُيُونࣲ‏25

Ayah 25

Translation of the meaning˹Imagine˺ how many gardens and springs the tyrants left behind

وَزُرُوعࣲ وَمَقَامࣲ كَرِيمࣲ‏26

Ayah 26

Translation of the meaningas well as ˹various˺ crops and splendid residences

وَنَعۡمَةࣲ كَانُواْ فِيهَا فَٰكِهِينَ27

Ayah 27

Translation of the meaningand luxuries which they fully enjoyed

كَذَٰلِكَۖ وَأَوۡرَثۡنَٰهَا قَوۡمًا ءَاخَرِينَ28

Ayah 28

Translation of the meaningSo it was. And We awarded it ˹all˺ to another people

فَمَا بَكَتۡ عَلَيۡهِمُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ وَٱلۡأَرۡضُ وَمَا كَانُواْ مُنظَرِينَ29

Ayah 29

Translation of the meaningNeither heaven nor earth wept over them, nor was their fate delayed

وَلَقَدۡ نَجَّيۡنَا بَنِيٓ إِسۡرَٰٓءِيلَ مِنَ ٱلۡعَذَابِ ٱلۡمُهِينِ30

Ayah 30

Translation of the meaningAnd We certainly delivered the Children of Israel from the humiliating torment

مِن فِرۡعَوۡنَۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ عَالِيࣰ ا مِّنَ ٱلۡمُسۡرِفِينَ31

Ayah 31

Translation of the meaningof Pharaoh. He was truly a tyrant, a transgressor

وَلَقَدِ ٱخۡتَرۡنَٰهُمۡ عَلَىٰ عِلۡمٍ عَلَى ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ32

Ayah 32

Translation of the meaningAnd indeed, We chose the Israelites knowingly above the others

وَءَاتَيۡنَٰهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأٓيَٰتِ مَا فِيهِ بَلَٰٓؤࣱ اْ مُّبِينٌ33

Ayah 33

Translation of the meaningAnd We showed them signs in which there was a clear test

إِنَّ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَيَقُولُونَ34

Ayah 34

Translation of the meaningIndeed, these ˹Meccans˺ say

إِنۡ هِيَ إِلَّا مَوۡتَتُنَا ٱلۡأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمُنشَرِينَ35

Ayah 35

Translation of the meaning“There is nothing beyond our first death, and we will never be resurrected

فَأۡتُواْ بِـَٔابَآئِنَآ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَٰدِقِينَ36

Ayah 36

Translation of the meaningBring ˹back˺ our forefathers, if what you say is true.”

أَهُمۡ خَيۡرٌ أَمۡ قَوۡمُ تُبَّعࣲ وَٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡ أَهۡلَكۡنَٰهُمۡۚ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ مُجۡرِمِينَ37

Ayah 37

Translation of the meaningAre they superior to the people of Tubba’ and those before them? We destroyed them ˹all˺, ˹for˺ they were truly wicked

وَمَا خَلَقۡنَا ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَا لَٰعِبِينَ38

Ayah 38

Translation of the meaningWe did not create the heavens and the earth and everything in between for sport

مَا خَلَقۡنَٰهُمَآ إِلَّا بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَهُمۡ لَا يَعۡلَمُونَ39

Ayah 39

Translation of the meaningWe only created them for a purpose, but most of these ˹pagans˺ do not know

إِنَّ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡفَصۡلِ مِيقَٰتُهُمۡ أَجۡمَعِينَ40

Ayah 40

Translation of the meaningSurely the Day of ˹Final˺ Decision is the time appointed for all—

يَوۡمَ لَا يُغۡنِي مَوۡلًى عَن مَّوۡلࣰ ى شَيۡـࣰٔ ا وَلَا هُمۡ يُنصَرُونَ41

Ayah 41

Translation of the meaningthe Day no kith or kin will be of benefit to another whatsoever, nor will they be helped

إِلَّا مَن رَّحِمَ ٱللَّهُۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ42

Ayah 42

Translation of the meaningexcept those shown mercy by Allah. He is truly the Almighty, Most Merciful

إِنَّ شَجَرَتَ ٱلزَّقُّومِ43

Ayah 43

Translation of the meaningSurely ˹the fruit of˺ the tree of Zaqqûm

طَعَامُ ٱلۡأَثِيمِ44

Ayah 44

Translation of the meaningwill be the food of the evildoer

كَٱلۡمُهۡلِ يَغۡلِي فِي ٱلۡبُطُونِ45

Ayah 45

Translation of the meaningLike molten metal, it will boil in the bellies

كَغَلۡيِ ٱلۡحَمِيمِ46

Ayah 46

Translation of the meaninglike the boiling of hot water

خُذُوهُ فَٱعۡتِلُوهُ إِلَىٰ سَوَآءِ ٱلۡجَحِيمِ47

Ayah 47

Translation of the meaning˹It will be said,˺ “Seize them and drag them into the depths of the Hellfire

ثُمَّ صُبُّواْ فَوۡقَ رَأۡسِهِۦ مِنۡ عَذَابِ ٱلۡحَمِيمِ48

Ayah 48

Translation of the meaningThen pour over their heads the torment of boiling water.”

ذُقۡ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلۡكَرِيمُ49

Ayah 49

Translation of the meaning˹The wicked will be told,˺ “Taste this. You mighty, noble one

إِنَّ هَٰذَا مَا كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَمۡتَرُونَ50

Ayah 50

Translation of the meaningThis is truly what you ˹all˺ used to doubt.”

إِنَّ ٱلۡمُتَّقِينَ فِي مَقَامٍ أَمِينࣲ‏51

Ayah 51

Translation of the meaningIndeed, the righteous will be in a secure place

فِي جَنَّٰتࣲ وَعُيُونࣲ‏52

Ayah 52

Translation of the meaningamid Gardens and springs

يَلۡبَسُونَ مِن سُندُسࣲ وَإِسۡتَبۡرَقࣲ مُّتَقَٰبِلِينَ53

Ayah 53

Translation of the meaningdressed in fine silk and rich brocade, facing one another

كَذَٰلِكَ وَزَوَّجۡنَٰهُم بِحُورٍ عِينࣲ‏54

Ayah 54

Translation of the meaningSo it will be. And We will pair them to maidens with gorgeous eyes

يَدۡعُونَ فِيهَا بِكُلِّ فَٰكِهَةٍ ءَامِنِينَ55

Ayah 55

Translation of the meaningThere they will call for every fruit in serenity

لَا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا ٱلۡمَوۡتَ إِلَّا ٱلۡمَوۡتَةَ ٱلۡأُولَىٰۖ وَوَقَىٰهُمۡ عَذَابَ ٱلۡجَحِيمِ56

Ayah 56

Translation of the meaningThere they will never taste death, beyond the first death. And He will protect them from the punishment of the Hellfire—

فَضۡلࣰ ا مِّن رَّبِّكَۚ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلۡفَوۡزُ ٱلۡعَظِيمُ57

Ayah 57

Translation of the meaningas ˹an act of˺ grace from your Lord. That is ˹truly˺ the ultimate triumph

فَإِنَّمَا يَسَّرۡنَٰهُ بِلِسَانِكَ لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ58

Ayah 58

Translation of the meaningIndeed, We have made this ˹Quran˺ easy in your own language ˹O Prophet˺ so perhaps they will be mindful

فَٱرۡتَقِبۡ إِنَّهُم مُّرۡتَقِبُونَ59

Ayah 59

Translation of the meaningWait then! They too are certainly waiting
